  • Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin improved to 5-0 by allowing one run in 6 1/3 innings.
  • Diamondbacks RP Heath Bell notched his third save in three days.
  • Phillies SP Cole Hamels gave up two runs in six innings while taking the loss.
  • Diamondbacks OF Gerardo Parra went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk.
  • Diamondbacks SS Didi Gregorius continued his strong start going 2-for-3 with a walk increasing his average to .422.
(21-13) Braves - 6 at 3 - Giants (20-15)
  • Braves C Brian McCann went 3-for-5 with his first home run and three RBI.
  • Braves RP Craig Kimbrel tossed a scoreless ninth inning for his 100th career save.
  • Braves SP Julio Teheran yielded three runs in seven innings for the win.
  • Giants SP Ryan Vogelsong was charged with six runs in 4 1/3 innings.
  • Giants C Buster Posey went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.
(18-16) Pirates - 2 at 3 - Mets (14-17)
  • Mets OF Mike Baxter came off the bench to deliver his second game-winning hit in three days.
  • Pirates SP Jeff Locke pitched six innings of one-run ball in a no-decision.
  • Mets 2B Daniel Murphy went hitless and is 4-for-24 with one RBI so far in May.
  • Pirates 3B Pedro Alvarez went 2-for-3 with a homer and a sac fly.
  • Mets SP Dillon Gee went 5 innings giving up just one run and five hits in a no decision.
  • Mets RP Bobby Parnell picked up his 4th win of the season in relief.

American League:

(18-13) Royals - 6 at 2 - Orioles (21-14)
  • Royals SP Jeremy Guthrie allowed two runs -- one earned -- in six innings to move to 5-0 for the season.
  • Orioles SP Freddy Garcia surrendered four runs in six innings.
  • Batting third for the first time this year, Royals OF Alex Gordon went 2-for-4 and homered.
  • Royals 1B Eric Hosmer went 2-for-4 and finally hit his first homer of the season.
  • Orioles DH Nolan Reimold went hitless in a third straight start.
(18-18) Athletics - 2 at 9 - Indians (18-14)
(16-15) Twins - 5 at 3 - Red Sox (21-14)
  • Playing on his 22nd birthday, Twins OF Oswaldo Arcia had a two-run homer and a triple.
  • Red Sox SP John Lackey took a loss after allowing five runs -- one earned -- in seven innings.
  • Red Sox 3B Will Middlebrooks had a double in four at-bats in his return from a sore rib cage.
  • Twins SP Kevin Correia picked up the win going 5.1 innings allowing three runs and nine hits.
(13-23) Blue Jays - 4 at 5 - Rays (16-18) (10 innings)
  • Rays 3B Evan Longoria went 3-for-5 with two doubles and scored the winning run.
  • Rays SP David Price allowed four runs -- two earned -- in eight innings.
  • Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey allowed three runs -- two earned -- in six innings in a no-decision.
  • Blue Jays OF Rajai Davis had two hits, two steals and two runs scored.
(12-22) Angels - 6 at 5 - Astros (11-24)
  • Angels RP Ernesto Frieri got five outs for a save.
  • Angels OF Josh Hamilton homered, doubled and walked.
  • Astros 3B Matt Dominguez collected three RBI, but he also committed three errors.
  • Astros SP Lucas Harrell went 5 innings allowing just one earned run on four hits.
  • Angels SP Jason Vargas allowed five runs and ten hits over 5.2 innings in a no decision.
Inter League:
 
(20-13) Yankees - 3 at 1 - Rockies (19-15)
  • Yankees SP C.C. Sabathia gave up one earned run over just 4 innings.
  • Rockies SP Jeff Francis gave up two runs and four hits in a loss.
  • Yankees 2B Robinson Cano hit his 9th homer of the year.
  • Yankees RP Mariano Rivera picked up his 13th save of the year.
(19-13) Tigers - 4 at 5 - Nationals (19-15)
  • Nationals SP Dan Haren gave up four runs and nine hits over six innings but still picked up the win.
  • Tigers SP Doug Fister was knocked around giving up four earned runs and eight hits over just 3 innings in the loss.
  • Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman went 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored.
  • Nationals RP Rafael Soriano picked up his 12th save of the season.
  • Tigers pinch hitter Matt Tuiasosopo hit a 2-run homer, his 2nd of the season.
Player Transactions:

National League:
  • Cubs OF Brett Jackson (toe) has been activated from the 7-day disabled list at Triple-A Iowa.
  • Mets RP Pedro Feliciano has been placed on the 7-day disabled list with High-A St. Lucie due to food poisoning.
American League:
  • Orioles acquired 3B Brandon Wood from the Royals for cash considerations; assigned him to Triple-A Norfolk.
  • Blue Jays purchased the contract of RHP Mickey Storey from Triple-A Buffalo.
  • Blue Jays purchased the contract of RHP Ramon Ortiz from Triple-A Buffalo.
  • Blue Jays optioned LHP Ricky Romero to Triple-A Buffalo.
  • Blue Jays designated RHP Edgar Gonzalez for assignment.
  • Astros released OF Rick Ankiel.
  • Indians activated OF Michael Bourn from the 15-day disabled list.
  • Red Sox purchased the contract of RHP Jose De La Torre from Triple-A Pawtucket.
  • Red Sox transferred RHP Joel Hanrhan from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
  • Indians optioned LHP Scott Barnes to Triple-A Columbus.
  • Orioles recalled RHP Alex Burnett from Triple-A Norfolk.
  • Orioles placed RHP Miguel Gonzalez on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 4, with a right thumb blister.
  • Yankees acquired INF Alberto Gonzalez from the Cubs for a player to be named later or cash considerations; assigned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Injury Updates:

National League:

  • An MRI taken Thursday morning on Nationals OF Jayson Werth's sore right hamstring showed no structural damage.
  • Diamondbacks RP J.J. Putz will not require major elbow surgery.
  • Braves OF Jason Heyward (appendectomy) could be activated from the disabled list for the series against the Diamondbacks that begins on Monday.
  • Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Thursday that RP Frank Francisco (elbow) will remain on his minor league rehab assignment for now.
  • Brewers SP Mark Rogers (shoulder) has been pulled from his minor league rehab assignment.
  • Mets SP Jenrry Mejia (elbow) has begun appearing in games at extended spring training in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
  • Mets catching prospect Travis d'Arnaud will have his broken left foot reexamined on May 17.
  • Dodgers manager Don Mattingly does not expect 1B Adrian Gonzalez (neck) to play Friday against the Marlins.
  • Diamondbacks 2B Aaron Hill (hand) is hoping to be cleared to hit off a tee sometime next week.
  • Pirates SP Charlie Morton (elbow, shoulder) will throw a bullpen session on Friday.
  • Phillies SP Roy Halladay will have surgery next Wednesday to have a bone spur removed from his right shoulder as well as a partially torn rotator cuff and frayed labrum repaired.
  • Reds SP Johnny Cueto (lat, oblique) allowed one run on four hits and no walks while striking out four in a rehab start for Low-A Dayton Thursday.
  • Dodgers SP Zack Greinke (collarbone) is expected to rejoin the Dodgers' rotation on May 15 for a start against the Nationals.
  • Braves SP Brandon Beachy (elbow) could begin a rehab assignment next Wednesday or Thursday.
  • Giants RP Santiago Casilla is dealing with a cyst on his right knee.
  • Nationals manager Davey Johnson said OF Jayson Werth (hamstring) needs one more day of rest before returning to the lineup.
American League:
  • Blue Jays SP Brandon Morrow experienced back discomfort while throwing a side session Wednesday and will likely have his next scheduled start pushed from Friday to Sunday.
  • Athletics SP Brett Anderson (ankle) is scheduled to make a minor league rehab start this Sunday.
  • Blue Jays SP J.A. Happ (head, knee) is expected to be sidelined 4-6 weeks.
  • Indians C Lou Marson (shoulder) has been cleared to begin a throwing program.
  • Indians RP Blake Wood's rehab assignment has been halted after he felt soreness in his surgically-repaired right elbow in his first appearance with Double-A Akron on Saturday.
  • Blue Jays SP Josh Johnson (triceps) is aiming to make a minor league rehab start around May 21.
  • Red Sox RP Andrew Bailey (forearm) indicated Thursday that he will not be ready to come off the disabled list when he's first eligible next Tuesday.
  • Astros RP Josh Fields (forearm) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Friday with High-A Quad Cities.
  • Orioles SP Miguel Gonzalez (thumb) is aiming to make a minor league rehab start on Tuesday or Wednesday.
  • Twins RP Tim Wood has been shut down from his rehab assignment after developing more soreness in his pitching shoulder.
  • Angels SP Jered Weaver (elbow) said his first bullpen session on Thursday since landing on the disabled list went well.
  • Angels RP Scott Downs left Thursday's game against the Astros with a right foot injury.
  • Rangers SP Colby Lewis (elbow) allowed three runs on four hits and two walks over two innings Thursday in his first rehab start with Triple-A Round Rock.
  • Twins SS Pedro Florimon Jr. left Thursday's game against the Red Sox with a tight right hamstring.
  • Rays C Jose Molina left Thursday's game against the Blue Jays after taking a foul tip off his right knee.
  • Angels SS Erick Aybar left Thursday's game against the Astros with a tight right hamstring.
  • Red Sox RP Franklin Morales (back, pectoral) will move up to Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday to continue his rehab assignment.
  • Indians RP Vinnie Pestano (elbow) is eyeing a return on May 17.
Notes and Rumors:

National League:
  • Reds minor league right-hander Dan Tuttle was suspended 100 games for a third positive test for a drug of abuse.
American League:
  • Rays manager Joe Maddon said that Jake McGee is not in danger of being demoted.
  • Blue Jays RP Ramon Ortiz is tentatively scheduled to start Friday against the Red Sox.
  • A's manager Bob Melvin said Thursday that SP Jarrod Parker (neck) will be fine for his next start.
  • Twins general manager Terry Ryan said SP Kyle Gibson is not an option to replace Pedro Hernandez in the rotation.
  • Angels SP Tommy Hanson will miss his scheduled start Friday following the death of his step-brother.
  • Twins SP Pedro Hernandez will remain in the Twins' rotation for now.
  • The Orioles will recall SP Steve Johnson to start Saturday against the Twins.
