  • Padres SP Jason Marquis pitched eight innings of five-hit ball and combined with Huston Street on a shutout.
(20-13) Braves - 7 at 2 - Reds (19-16)
(19-15) Diamondbacks - 3 at 2 - Dodgers (13-20)
  • Diamondbacks 1B Paul Goldschmidt homered off Clayton Kershaw and Kenley Jansen to drive in all three runs.
  • Diamondbacks SP Wade Miley pitched 7 2/3 innings and allowed two runs.
  • Diamondbacks RP Heath Bell pitched around a leadoff double to pick up a save.
  • Dodgers RP Kenley Jansen took a loss after giving up a solo homer to Paul Goldschmidt in the eighth.
  • Dodgers OF Carl Crawford appeared as a pinch-hitter, flying out to end the game.
(16-19) Phillies - 3 at 4 - Giants (20-14) (10 innings)
  • Giants 2B Marco Scutaro went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI in 10 innings.
  • Giants SP Barry Zito pitched seven innings of one-run ball in a no-decision.
  • Phillies SP Jonathan Pettibone surrendered three runs in 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision.
  • Phillies OF Delmon Young went 0-for-3 with a sac fly and is hitting .130 since coming off the disabled list.
(21-12) Cardinals - 5 at 4 - Cubs (13-21)
  • Cardinals OF Carlos Beltran went 3-for-5 with two RBI.
  • Cardinals SP Jake Westbrook yielded four runs -- three earned -- in 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision.
  • Cubs OF Nate Schierholtz went 2-for-4 with a two-run double.
  • Cubs SP Carlos Villanueva went 6.2 innings giving up seven hits and three runs in a no decision.
  • Cardinals RP Edward Mujica picked up his 9th save of the year in 9 tries.

American League:

(17-13) Royals - 3 at 5 - Orioles (21-13)
  • Orioles SP Chris Tillman was good enough to win, yielding three runs on five hits and three walks over six frames.
  • Royals SP Luis Mendoza gave up five runs -- three earned -- over six innings.
  • Orioles SS J.J. Hardy launched a two-run homer.
  • Royals 3B Mike Moustakas went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer.
(18-17) Athletics - 3 at 4 - Indians (17-14)
  • Indians SP Justin Masterson picked up win No. 5 Wednesday, allowing three runs on just four hits and two walks over seven frames.
  • Athletics SP A.J. Griffin was solid but was hurt by the longball, giving up four runs – three earned – over 6 2/3 frames in a loss.
  • Indians 1B Nick Swisher ripped a solo homer.
  • Athletics OF Seth Smith went 2-for-5 with a run scored.
(15-15) Twins - 15 at 8 - Red Sox (21-13)
(13-22) Blue Jays - 4 at 10 - Rays (15-18)
  • Rays 3B Evan Longoria homered and drove in three runs.
  • Blue Jays 1B Edwin Encarnacion hit his 10th home run of the season.
  • Rays OF Kelly Johnson went 3-for-4 with a home run.
  • Rays SP Matt Moore allowed two runs over five innings, earning the win.
  • Blue Jays SP Ricky Romero pitched one-third of an inning, allowing three runs and taking the loss.
(11-22) Angels - 1 at 3 - Astros (10-24)
  • Astros RP Jose Veras picked up his 4th save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.
  • Angels SP Joe Blanton allowed three runs over 6 2/3 innings.
  • Astros SP Bud Norris was excellent allowing just one run over 8 innings for his 4th win of the year.
  • Astros OF Chris Carter hit his 8th homer of the year.
  • Angels OF Josh Hamilton hit just his 3rd homer of the season.
Inter League:
 
(21-13) Rangers - 4 at 1 - Brewers (15-17)
  • Rangers SP Derek Holland limited the Brewers to one run over seven innings.
  • Rangers RP Joe Nathan collected his ninth save of the season.
  • Brewers SP Kyle Lohse allowed four earned runs in 6 1/3 innings.
  • Brewers OF Carlos Gomez went 4-for-4 in the Brewers' loss to the Rangers on Wednesday in Milwaukee.
(16-19) Mariners - 2 at 1 - Pirates (18-15)
  • Mariners SP Felix Hernandez pitched eight innings of one-run ball.
  • Pirates SP A.J. Burnett allowed two runs and two hits in seven innings.
  • Mariners C Jesus Montero hit a go-ahead homer in the seventh inning.
  • Pirates 3B Pedro Alvarez went hitless in a fourth straight game, dropping his average back down to .168.
(14-18) White Sox - 6 at 3 - Mets (13-17) 
  • White Sox SP Jake Peavy allowed one run over 6 2/3 innings.
  • White Sox OF Alejandro De Aza went 3-for-5 with a home run.
  • Mets SP Jeremy Hefner allowed four runs in six innings.
  • White Sox 3B Conor Gillaspie went 2-for-4 with a two-run double.

  • Yankees SP David Phelps gave up just two runs and three hits over 6 innings in a no decision.
  • Rockies SP pitched well allowing two runs and two hits over 5 innings while striking out five.
  • Yankees OF Vernon Wells launched his 7th homer of the year while Rockies 1B Todd Helton hit his 2nd.
  • Yankees RP David Robertson returned from injury to pick up the win in relief.
  • Yankees RP Mariano Rivera pitched a scoreless ninth for his 12th save of the season.

  • Blue Jays purchased the contract of RHP Edgar Gonzalez from Triple-A Buffalo.
  • Blue Jays placed LHP J.A. Happ on the 15-day disabled list with a head contusion.
  • Red Sox optioned RHP Allen Webster to Triple-A Pawtucket.
  • Rangers recalled C Robinson Chirinos from Triple-A Round Rock.
  • Rangers placed C A.J. Pierzynski on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 6, with a strained right oblique.

  • Phillies SP Roy Halladay confirmed Wednesday that he will have surgery on his right shoulder.
  • Braves OF Jason Heyward (appendectomy) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment Thursday with Triple-A Gwinnett.
  • Reds SP Johnny Cueto (oblique) is scheduled to throw another bullpen session Thursday.
  • Cubs RP Kyuji Fujikawa (forearm) will pitch in a set-up role when he returns from the disabled list.
  • Braves RP Jonny Venters (elbow) is scheduled to throw off a mound Thursday for the first time since he was shut down in early April.
  • Reds C Ryan Hanigan (oblique) went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored Tuesday in his first minor league rehab game with Triple-A Louisville.
  • Dodgers SS Hanley Ramirez is expected to miss 4-6 weeks after an MRI confirmed the diagnosis of a left hamstring strain.
  • Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Tuesday that SP Zack Greinke (collarbone) has touched 90 mph on the radar gun during his recent bullpen sessions.
  • Mets RP Frank Francisco (elbow) threw another scoreless inning Wednesday in his latest rehab appearance with High-A St. Lucie.
  • Giants OF Angel Pagan is currently dealing with a mild adductor strain in his groin area.
  • Diamondbacks SS Willie Bloomquist (oblique) had a setback in extended spring training recently.
  • Dodgers 1B Adrian Gonzalez left Wednesday's game after the fourth inning with an apparent injury.
  • Nationals OF Jayson Werth will undergo an MRI on his right hamstring Thursday.
  • Nationals RP Christian Garcia (forearm) has been throwing from a mound and will begin incorporating curveballs on Thursday.
  • Giants RP Santiago Casilla will undergo an MRI on his right knee.
American League:
  • Blue Jays SP J.A. Happ (head, ear) left Bayfront Medical Center on Tuesday with the use of crutches and a brace on his knee.
  • Blue Jays SP Kyle Drabek (elbow) expects to throw live batting practice in the next week or two.
  • Blue Jays SP Drew Hutchison (elbow) is on track to face live hitters in about three weeks.
  • Blue Jays RP Sergio Santos (elbow) is set to pitch in extended spring training on Thursday and Saturday before starting a rehab assignment early next week with High-A Dunedin.
  • Orioles 2B Brian Roberts is scheduled to undergo surgery Thursday morning on his injured right hamstring.
  • An MRI taken Wednesday morning on Red Sox 3B Will Middlebrooks' sore rib cage showed no structural damage.
  • Athletics SP Brett Anderson threw a 30-pitch side session on Wednesday and felt no discomfort in his right ankle.
  • Yankees SP Ivan Nova allowed two runs over four-plus innings Wednesday in a start at extended spring training.
  • Indians SP Brett Myers is scheduled to throw off a mound Friday for the first time since hitting the disabled list.
  • Red Sox RP Andrew Bailey (biceps) will resume throwing Thursday.
  • Angels RP Ryan Madson (elbow) said he could be activated from the disabled list following a second rehab appearance next Wednesday.
  • White Sox SP Gavin Floyd underwent successful surgery Wednesday to repair the ulnar collateral ligament and flexor muscle in his right elbow.
  • Rangers C A.J. Pierzynski underwent an MRI Wednesday on his right oblique muscle.
  • Yankees OF Curtis Granderson (forearm) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre on Thursday.
