Pirates - 1 at 9 - Cardinals

  • Cardinals OF Carlos Beltran homered from both sides of the plate.
  • Cardinals SP Lance Lynn improved to 4-0 by firing seven innings of one-run ball.
  • Cardinals 1B Allen Craig went 2-for-4 with three RBI's.
  • Pirates OF Andrew McCutchen went 0-for-3 with a strikeout lowering his average to .226.
  • Pirates SP Jonathan Sanchez didn't register an out and was ejected after hitting Allen Craig. He allowed the first three batters on base, two of those via the homerun.
Brewers - 5 at 7 - Dodgers
  • Dodgers 1B Adrian Gonzalez drove in three runs with two doubles.
  • Dodgers SP Josh Beckett pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed three runs.
  • Brewers SP Hiram Burgos yielded three runs in six innings in a no-decision.
  • Dodgers OF Carl Crawford went 2-for-4 with a homer and an RBI single.
  • Brewers 3B Alex Gonzalez went 3-for-4 and scored three times against the Dodgers.
Reds - 0 at 1 - Nationals
Phillies - 4 at 0 - Mets
  • Phillies SP Kyle Kendrick threw his second career shutout.
  • Mets SP Dillon Gee gave up four runs in six innings.
  • Phillies 1B Ryan Howard launched a three-run homer in Friday's win over the Mets.
  • Phillies 3B Michael Young went 3-for-4 with an RBI single and a run scored.
  • Mets C John Buck was hitless in three at-bats lowering his average to .260.
Cubs - 4 at 2 - Marlins
  • Cubs RP Kevin Gregg retired the Marlins in order in the ninth inning, preserving a two-run lead and notching his second save of the season.
  • Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo swatted a pair of two-run homers.
  • Cubs SP Scott Feldman pitched well, allowing just two runs on seven hits over his 6 2/3 innings.
  • Marlins 1B Joe Mahoney smashed the first home run of his major league career on, but it wasn't enough for the victory.
  • Marlins SP Wade LeBlanc struggled again in a losing effort, surrendering four runs on eight hits over his six innings of work.
Rockies - 6 at 3 - Diamondbacks
  • Rockies C Wilin Rosario went 2-for-4 and hit his fifth homer.
  • Rockies SP Juan Nicasio picked up his 3rd win of the season allowing just one earned run over 5 innings.
  • Rockies RP Rafael Betancourt picked up his 8th save of the season with a perfect ninth inning.
  • Rockies OF Michael Cuddyer went 1-for-4 with 2 RBI's.
  • Rockies SS Troy Tulowitzki went 1-for-4 with 3 RBI's giving him 21 on the season.
  • Diamondbacks SP Brandon McCarthy dropped to 0-3 after giving up six runs in six innings.
  • Diamondbacks 3B Martin Prado went 0-for-5 and grounded into a double play on, dropping his average to .218.
  • Diamondbacks 3B Eric Chavez belted his 3rd homer of the season.
Giants - 1 at 2Padres
  • Padres SP Andrew Cashner limited the Giants to one run in six innings.
  • Padres 1B Yonder Alonso and OF Carlos Quentin both had RBI singles.
  • Despite giving up a couple of singles, Padres RP Huston Street picked up a save in a one-run game.
  • Giants SP Tim Lincecum pitched seven innings of two-run ball and struck out nine.
  • Giants 2B Marco Scutaro went 0-for-3 with a walk before being replaced on a double-switch. Scutaro is batting just .217 on the season.

American League:

Orioles - 3 at 0 -  Athletics
  • Orioles SP Wei-Yin Chen evened his record at 2-2 by shutting out the Athletics for eight innings.
  • Athletics RP Sean Doolittle struck out three of the four batters he faced in 1 1/3 innings of work.
  • Inserted back into the third spot in the lineup, Athletics OF Josh Reddick went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. Reddick is now batting .159 on the season.
  • Athletics SP Tommy Milone was a tough luck loser giving up one unearned run over 6.2 innings while striking out five.
  • Orioles RP Jim Johnson picked up his 9th save of the season.
  • Orioles SS J.J. Hardy went 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored.
Indians -  at  - Royals - Postponed (Rescheduled as part of a double header on Sunday, April 28th)
 
Astros - 3 at 7 - Red Sox
  • Red Sox SP Ryan Dempster matched a season-high with 10 strikeouts while allowing two runs in six innings to pick up the win.
  • Astros SP Erik Bedard was knocked around for five runs in three-plus innings. Bedard's ERA now sits at 7.98 and his rotation spot could certainly be in jeopardy.
  • Red Sox C David Ross had a huge day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two homers and three runs scored.
  • Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia went 3-for-5 with an RBI double and a run scored.
  • Red Sox DH David Ortiz hit his 2nd homer of the season.
  • Red Sox 3B Will Middlebrooks went 2-for-4 and belted his 6th homerun of the year.
Blue Jays - 4 at 6 - Yankees
  • Yankees OF Brett Gardner swatted his 3rd home run of the season.
  • Yankees RP Mariano Rivera allowed three singles in the ninth inning, but was able to pitch his way out of trouble and picked up his eighth save of the season.
  • Yankees RP David Phelps played the role of savior, racking up nine strikeouts over four strong innings in relief of starter Ivan Nova who left due to injury.
  • Blue Jays 1B Edwin Encarnacion continued to mash the baseball, launching a pair of home runs in a losing effort.
  • SP Aaron Laffey didn’t deliver the results the Blue Jays were looking for in a spot start, as he allowed two runs on two hits and five walks over 2 2/3 innings.
Rays - 4 at 5 - White Sox 
  • White Sox SP Jake Peavy gave up three runs in 6 2/3 innings.
  • White Sox RP Addison Reed survived a shaky ninth inning for his eighth save and third in three days. He most likely will have the day off tomorrow.
  • Rays SP Roberto Hernandez was tagged for five runs in six innings.
  • White Sox 2B Tyler Greene went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in a win.
  • Rays 1B James Loney went 3-for-4 with two doubles.
 
Rangers - 4 at 3 - Twins
  • Rangers RP Joe Nathan served up a homer to in the ninth inning on, but was still able to convert his eighth save of the season.
  • Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre connected on his fourth home run of the season.
  • Rangers SP Justin Grimm delivered another impressive performance, surrendering just five hits over seven scoreless innings.
  • Twins OF Oswaldo Arcia swatted his second home run of the season, a three-run shot off Joe Nathan, in a losing effort.
  • Twins SP Scott Diamond didn’t have his best stuff, allowing three runs on 12 hits over 6 1/3 innings.
Angels - 6 at 3 - Mariners
  • Angels SP C.J. Wilson struck out nine while allowing three runs in 5 1/3 innings.
  • Mariners SP Aaron Harang was tagged for five runs in three innings. His ERA now sits at 11.37.
  • Angels 1B Mark Trumbo hit his third homer and has reached base safely every game this season.
  • Angels C Hank Conger hit his 1st homer of the season.
  • Angels RP Ernesto Frieri picked up his 3rd save of the season.
Inter League:
 
Braves - 0 at 10 - Tigers
  • OF Matt Tuiasosopo had his most productive day as a member of the Tigers, homering and driving home five runs.
  • Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez was absolutely masterful, racking up a career-best and franchise record 17 strikeouts over eight scoreless innings.
  • Braves SS Andrelton Simmons went 2-for-4 with a double in a losing effort.
  • Braves SP Paul Maholm’s tremendous start to the 2013 season came to a screaching halt as he allowed eight runs on 10 hits in just 3 2/3 innings.
  • Braves 2B Dan Uggla went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts batting in the 2-hole.
  • Tigers OF Torii Hunter went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.
  • Tigers 3B Miguel Cabrera went 2-for-4 with and RBI and two runs scored.
 
Player Transactions:

National League:
  • Reds placed LHP Manny Parra on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 24, with a strained left pectoral muscle.
  • Reds activated LHP Sean Marshall from the 15-day disabled list.
  • Cardinals purchased the contract of INF Jermaine Curtis from Triple-A Memphis.
  • Cardinals placed 1B Matt Adams on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 22, with a strained right oblique.
American League:
  • Blue Jays designated LHP Aaron Laffey for assignment.
Injury Updates:

National League:

  • Dodgers 2B Mark Ellis was diagnosed with a strained right quad.
  • Diamondbacks SS Didi Gregorius was diagnosed with a right temple contusion and is considered day-to-day.
  • Pirates 2B Neil Walker will miss a few games after he sustained a deep cut on his right index finger during Friday's game that required six stitches.
  • Braves C Brian McCann (shoulder) blasted a pair of home runs during his first rehab game with Low-A Rome on Friday.
  • Cubs RP Kyuji Fujikawa threw a bullpen session Friday for the first time since he was placed on the disabled list with a strained right forearm.
  • Dodgers RP Chris Capuano (calf) could throw a simulated game on Sunday, then would likely require a minor league rehab start before returning from the disabled list.
  • Dodgers SS Hanley Ramirez (thumb) will begin a three-game minor league rehab assignment with High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Saturday.
  • Giants RP Jeremy Affeldt (oblique) is schedule to throw a bullpen session on Saturday, his first since hitting the disabled list with a strained right oblique.
  • Pirates RP Jose Contreras (elbow) is on track to join the Pirates on May 3.
  • Cubs SP Matt Garza (lat, arm) threw off flat ground Friday and reported no tightness or soreness.
  • Marlins 1B Logan Morrison (knee) is shooting to begin a rehab assignment on May 10.
  • Marlins C Jeff Mathis (collarbone) is expected to begin a rehab assignment next Wednesday.
  • Marlins 1B Casey Kotchman (hamstring) is feeling better but remains a couple weeks away from returning to action.
  • Marlins SP Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) will throw a 45-pitch simulated game on Saturday.
  • Marlins SS Adeiny Hechavarria (elbow) is expected to be activated from the disabled list when first eligible on May 2.
  • Mets SP Jon Niese (leg) said he felt fine during his normal between-starts bullpen session.
American League:
  • Twins OF Darin Mastroianni (ankle) is still expected to be sidelined for "awhile" with a stress reaction in his left ankle.
  • Mariners prospect left-hander Danny Hultzen was diagnosed with a left rotator cuff strain and tendinitis.
  • Yankees C Francisco Cervelli will undergo surgery on Saturday to repair his broken right hand.
  • Rays DH Luke Scott was removed from Friday's rehab game when his right elbow stiffened up after being hit by a pitch.
  • White Sox RP Leyson Septimo (shoulder) has been assigned to Triple-A Charlotte to begin his rehab assignment.
  • Red Sox RP Joel Hanrahan (hamstring) surrendered a two-run homer during his first rehab outing with Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday.
  • Angels SS Erick Aybar (heel) will play one more extended spring training game in Arizona on Saturday before being activated from the disabled list.
  • Yankees SP Ivan Nova left Friday's start against the Blue Jays in the third inning due to pain in his right elbow.
  • Yankees C Austin Romine was removed from Friday's game at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after Francisco Cervelli left Friday's game with a right hand injury.
  • Athletics OF Yoenis Cespedes (hand) will play in the field on Saturday during his second rehab game with Triple-A Sacramento.
  • Indians OF Michael Bourn has rejoined the Indians, and is unlikely to require a rehab assignment before he returns to game action.
  • Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey (neck, back) is still expected to make his next start Sunday against the Yankees.
  • Blue Jays SP Josh Johnson (triceps) was sent for an MRI on Friday.
  • Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (wrist) is still limited to dry swings.
  • Tigers OF Andy Dirks is currently dealing with a sore right knee.
  • The Red Sox have officially named John Lackey (biceps) their starter for Sunday's game against the Astros.
  • Astros SP Rudy Owens will be sidelined for 4-5 months after surgery on Monday to repair a stress fracture in his left foot.
  • Astros OF Justin Maxwell will be sidelined 4-6 weeks with a non-displaced fracture in his left hand.
  • Rangers SP Neftali Feliz (elbow) is currently long-tossing at 105 feet.
  • Rangers RP Martin Perez (forearm) is scheduled to throw two innings in an extended spring game on Saturday.
  • Rangers SP Colby Lewis (elbow) is scheduled to throw 1-2 innings and/or 35-40 pitches in an extended spring training game on Monday.
  • Indians SP Carlos Carrasco has been diagnosed with a "deep contusion" on his right elbow/forearm and is considered day-to-day.
