Pirates - 6 at 4 - Phillies
  • Pirates SP James McDonald labored through five innings but escaped with a no-decision, allowing three runs.
  • With both Jason Grilli and Mark Melancon unavailable, Pirates RP Tony Watson nailed down his first career save, giving up one run over two innings.
  • Phillies SP Cliff Lee was good early but struggled late, giving up three runs on 10 hits and a walk over seven innings.
  • Pirates 1B Gaby Sanchez launched a solo homer and had three RBI.
  • Phillies OF Domonic Brown went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI.
Dodgers - 3 at 2 - Mets
  • Dodgers SP Hyun-Jin Ryu allowed three hits and one run over 7 innings while striking out eight.
  • Dodgers RP Brandon League picked up his 6th save of the season.
  • Dodgers RP Kenley Jansen picked up the win in relief pitching a scoreless 8th inning.
  • Mets SP Jeremy Hefner allowed three hits and one run over 7 innings while striking out four.
  • Dodgers OF Matt Kemp went 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored.
  • Mets 1B Ike Davis hit his 4th homer of the season.
Reds - 1 at 8 - Nationals
  • Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez allowed just one hit -- a Joey Votto solo homer -- over eight innings while picking up the win.
  • Breaking out of his slump, Nationals 2B Danny Espinosa had a two-run homer and an RBI double.
  • Reds SS Zack Cozart went 0-for-4, leaving him with a .195 average and a .220 OBP in 87 at-bats this season.
  • Reds SP Bronson Arroyo allowed nine hits and five runs over 6 innings while striking out just two and picking up the loss.
Cubs - 4 at 3 - Marlins
  • Cubs 3B Luis Valbuena hit his 4th homer of the season.
  • Cubs OF Nate Schierholtz hit his 3rd homer of the season.
  • Cubs RP Carlos Marmol pitched a scoreless ninth in a one-run game to earn his second save of the season.
  • Marlins RP Steve Cishek took his third loss after allowing a solo homer in a tie game.
  • Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo had another tough game, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.
  • Cubs SP Edwin Jackson allowed five hits and three runs over six innings while striking out four.
  • Marlins SP Kevin Slowey allowed five hits and three runs over six innings while striking out six.
Rockies - 2 at 3 - Diamondbacks
  • Diamondbacks RP J.J. Putz worked around a walk in a scoreless inning for his fourth save of the season.
  • Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa yielded three runs (two earned) in six innings.
  • Diamondbacks 1B Paul Goldschmidt launched a two-run homer.
  • Diamondbacks SP Trevor Cahill notched his first victory of the season by giving up one unearned run over five innings.

American League:

Orioles  - 10 at 2 -  Athletics
  • Orioles SP Jason Hammel allowed 3 hits and 2 unearned runs over six innings while striking out two and picking up the win.
  • Orioles 1B Chris Davis smashed his 8th homer of the season.
  • Orioles OF Adam Jones went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored raising his average to .359.
  • A's SP Jarrod Parker was rocked again giving up eight hits and six runs over 5.1 innings while striking out five and picking up his 4th loss of the season.
  • A's 3B Josh Donaldson went 2-for-2 with two RBI's and two walks.
Royals - 8 at 3 - Tigers 
  • Royals SP James Shields pitched eight strong innings, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks in an extra innings victory.
  • Tigers RP Bruce Rondon failed to hold a one-run lead in his major league debut, giving up a run on three hits.
  • Royals OF Alex Gordon had a single and belted an extra inning grand slam.
  • Tigers DH Victor Martinez went 0-for-4, dropping his average to .187.
Astros - 2 at 7 - Red Sox
  • Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz yielded two runs in 7 2/3 innings and struck out 10 to become the year's first five-game winner.
  • Astros SP Philip Humber was pounded for seven runs in 4 2/3 innings.
  • Red Sox DH David Ortiz went 3-for-4 with his first homer and three runs scored.
  • Red Sox OF Mike Carp went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and two runs scored.
  • Astros 1B Carlos Pena went 0-for-4, dropping his average to .197.
Blue Jays - 3 at 4 - Yankees
  • Yankees C Francisco Cervelli hit his third homer.
  • Blue Jays SP Mark Buehrle gave up seven hits and five runs over 5.1 innings while picking up the loss.
  • Blue Jays 1B Edwin Encarnacion hit his 5th homer of the season.
  • Blue Jays 3B Brett Lawrie finally hit his 1st homerun of the season.
  • Yankees SP Hiroki Kuroda gave up six hits and three runs over 6 innings while picking up the win.
  • Yankees RP Mariano Rivera picked up his 7th save of the season while pitching a scoreless ninth.
Rays - 2 at 5 - White Sox 
  • White Sox SP Chris Sale allowed two runs and four hits in seven innings while picking up the win.
  • Rays SP Jeremy Hellickson fell to 1-2 after allowing five runs in six innings while taking the loss.
  • White Sox 1B Adam Dunn hit a two-run homer off Jeremy Hellickson.
  • Rays C Jose Lobaton hit his 1st homer of the season.
  • White Sox RP Addison Reed picked up his 7th save of the season while lowering his ERA to 0.90.
Rangers - 2 at 1 - Twins
  • Rangers SP Nick Tepesch pitched 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball while picking up the win.
  • Rangers RP Joe Nathan picked up his 7th save in seven opportunities with a scoreless ninth.
  • Twins SP Vance Worley was solid allowing just 2 earned runs over 5 innings in a loss.
  • Twins OF Josh Willingham hit a solo homer, his 3rd of the year.
  • Rangers OF Nelson Cruz went 2-for-3 and picked up his 18th RBI of the year.
Angels - 0 at 6 - Mariners
  • Mariners 3B Kyle Seager went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.
  • Mariners SP Brandon Maurer struck out six over 6 1/3 shutout frames while picking up the win.
  • Angels RP Garrett Richards yielded five runs in 7 innings while striking out five and taking the loss.
  • Mariners OF Jason Bay went 2-for-3 with a two-run single and a run scored.
  • Mariners OF Carlos Peguero hit his 1st homer of the season.
Player Transactions:

National League:
  • Rockies recalled 3B/1B Ryan Wheeler from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
  • Rockies placed 1B Todd Helton on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 20, with left forearm inflammation.
  • Marlins claimed LHP Duane Below off waivers from the Tigers; optioned him to Triple-A New Orleans
American League:
Injury Updates:

National League:

  • Cubs SP Matt Garza (lat, arm) could make a rehab start by the end of next week.
  • Bleacher Report's Will Carroll reports that Dodgers SP Zack Greinke (collarbone) is scheduled to resume throwing early next week.
  • Nationals C Wilson Ramos (hamstring) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Friday with Double-A Harrisburg.
  • Mets SP Jon Niese (leg) will throw his normal between-starts bullpen session on Thursday afternoon.
  • Dodgers SP Chad Billingsley underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery on Wednesday evening.
  • Dodgers RP Shawn Tolleson is scheduled to undergo surgery on his injured lower back on Thursday afternoon.
American League:
  • Blue Jays SP Josh Johnson could be scratched from Friday's start against the Yankees due to biceps soreness.
  • Mariners SP Danny Hultzen was scratched from Thursday's start at Triple-A Tacoma after he was unable to get loose.
  • Rangers manager Ron Washington expects OF Jeff Baker (knee) to be available to play Friday.
  • Indians SP Carlos Carrasco left Thursday's start at Triple-A Columbus after taking a line drive off of his pitching arm.
  • Angels 3B Alberto Callaspo (calf) is feeling better but doesn't expect to be activated until the Angels return home late next week.
  • Angels SS Erick Aybar (heel) played five innings in extended spring training on Thursday and will be re-evaluated on Friday.
  • Twins SP Samuel Deduno (groin) threw a 50-pitch bullpen session Thursday.
  • Twins SP Cole De Vries (forearm) will make a start in extended spring training on Friday.
  • Mariners OF Franklin Gutierrez has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 hamstring strain and is expected to miss 2-3 weeks.
  • Red Sox OF Shane Victorino (back) is expected to sit out at least through Friday, but Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington said a trip to the disabled list "hasn’t even been discussed."
  • Astros OF Justin Maxwell (hand) is expected to be sidelined for four weeks.
  • Rays SS Yunel Escobar said his right hamstring feels much better and he doesn't expect to miss much time.
  • Yankees SS Derek Jeter (ankle) said during a press conference Thursday that he doesn't want to discuss a timeline for his return.
  • Athletics OF Yoenis Cespedes (hand) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Thursday with Triple-A Sacramento.
  • Red Sox SP John Lackey (biceps) threw 50 pitches in a bullpen session Thursday with no issues.
  • Tigers OF Avisail Garcia (heel) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment Thursday at High-A Lakeland.
  • Angels RP Kevin Jepsen (triceps) has reported to extended spring training but is not very far along in his rehab.
  • Angels RP Ryan Madson (elbow) has reported to extended spring training and is expected to face live hitters soon.
  • Rays DH Luke Scott (calf) is likely to be activated Tuesday.
