  • Nationals OF Denard Span went 2-for-4 with a walk, a steal and two runs scored against the White Sox.

  • Giants SP Ryan Vogelsong allowed five runs (four earned) in six innings in a 7-6 win over the Cubs.

  • Giants RP Sergio Romo locked down his sixth save of the season against the Cubs.

  • Cubs SP Scott Feldman yielded six runs (two earned) in 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Giants.

  • White Sox 2B Gordon Beckham will be placed on the disabled list with a fractured hamate bone in his left hand.

  • MLB.com's Corey Brock predicts that Padres 3B Chase Headley (thumb) will begin a rehab assignment on Sunday.

  • Cubs 2B Darwin Barney (knee) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment Saturday at Triple-A Iowa.

  • A's OF Josh Reddick (wrist) will return to the lineup Friday.

  • Angels RP Ryan Madson (elbow) threw a 30-pitch, high-intensity bullpen session on Thursday.

  • Cubs prospect OF Jorge Soler has been suspended five games for wielding a bat on Wednesday night during a bench-clearing incident at High-A Daytona.

  • Phillies C Carlos Ruiz can begin playing in minor league games five days before his suspension ends.

  • Rockies RP Rafael Betancourt has successfully converted his first three save opportunities of the 2013 regular season.

American League:
  • Red Sox RP Alfredo Aceves will be given another start in place of injured starter John Lackey.
