Yesterday's Notable Stat Lines:

National League:

  • Madison Bumgarner pitched eight scoreless innings and combined with Sergio Romo on a two-hitter in the Giants' 3-0 win over the Dodgers.

  • Hyun-Jin Ryu took a loss in his Dodgers debut after allowing three runs — one earned — in 6 1/3 innings against the Giants.

  • Dodgers SS Justin Sellers went 0-for-2 and committed two errors at shortstop before being removed for a pinch-hitter.

  • Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia limited the Diamondbacks to one run and two hits in 5 2/3 innings to pick up a win.

  • Making his Diamondbacks debut, Heath Bell gave up three runs and two homers in one-third of an inning against the Cardinals.

  • Cardinals SS Pete Kozma went 2-for-4 with a homerun.

  • Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki both hit their second home runs in as many days as the Rockies beat the Brewers 8-4.

  • Marco Estrada allowed four runs in five innings but took a no-decision in the Brewers' loss to the Rockies.

  • Jorge De La Rosa allowed four runs in 4 1/3 innings of a no-decision against the Brewers.

American League:

  • Michael Morse hit a pair of homers and drove in four runs in the Mariners' 7-1 win over the A's.
  • Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma beat the A's by allowing just one run and two hits in six innings.

  • Athletics SP Jarrod Parker gave up four runs in five innings in a loss to the Mariners.

  • Mariners 3B Kyle Seager went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two walks against the A's
  • Yoenis Cespedes homered for Oakland's only run in their loss to the Mariners.

  • Yu Darvish came within an out of a perfect game, striking out 14 batters and allowing just one single over 8 2/3 innings in the Rangers' 7-0 victory against the Astros.

  • Ian Kinsler hit his first home run of the season and scored two runs in the Rangers' 7-0 win over the Astros.

  • Astros SP Lucas Harrell went six innings and allowed just one run, but he took the loss against the Rangers.

  • Chris Perez picked up the save pitching a scoreless ninth inning in the Indians 4-1 win over the Blue Jays

  • Justin Masterson allowed just one run in six innings in the Indians win over the Blue Jays.

  • Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey allowed four runs — three earned — in six innings against the Indians.
  • Adam Jones went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored in the Orioles' 7-4 win over the Rays.

  • Orioles SP Jason Hammel earned the win after allowing three runs in six innings against the Rays.
  • Rays SP David Price yielded two runs in six innings against the Orioles.

  • Rays RP Jake McGee was lit up for five runs in two-thirds of an inning by the Orioles.

  • Orioles C Matt Wieters homered, doubled and walked twice versus the Rays.

  • Rays OF Desmond Jennings went 2-for-4 with an RBI double, a steal and two runs scored against the Orioles.

Player Transactions:

National League:

American League:

  • Indians purchased the contract of LHP Scott Kazmir from Triple-A Columbus.

  • Indians optioned LHP Nick Hagadone to Triple-A Columbus
  • Red Sox signed 1B Brandon Snyder to a minor league contract.

  • Indians sent LHP David Huff outright to Triple-A Columbus

Injury Updates:

National League:

  • Diamondbacks SS Didi Gregorius (elbow) will only pinch-hit and be used as a designated hitter initially when he begins a rehab assignment with Triple-A Reno on Thursday.

  • Dodgers SP Ted Lilly (shoulder) threw a successful bullpen session Tuesday and is slated to make a rehab start Friday for High-A Rancho Cucamonga.

  • Mets SP Shaun Marcum (biceps) was scratched from a scheduled simulated game Tuesday due to neck pain.

  • Reds OF Ryan Ludwick (shoulder) is expected to miss the next three months.

  • Braves RP Jonny Venters (elbow) has been shut down for the next four weeks.

  • Mets SP Johan Santana underwent successful surgery Tuesday morning to repair a tear in the capsule in the front of his left shoulder.

American League:

  • The Blue Jays expect 3B Brett Lawrie (ribs) to miss approximately the next two weeks.

  • Athletics INF Adam Rosales (intercostal) will do some running and light throwing on the field Tuesday.

  • Indians SP Scott Kazmir (abdominal strain) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday.

  • Red Sox SS Stephen Drew (concussion) made three plate appearances on Tuesday afternoon in an extended spring training game

Notes and Rumors:

National League:

  • Padres manager Bud Black expects P Andrew Cashner to join the team's rotation at some point this season.

  • Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said he wants to "wean" Carl Crawford into the lineup and he would have sat the outfielder Tuesday even if they were facing a right-hander.

  • Dodgers RP Javy Guerra was in the starting rotation with Triple-A Albuquerque, but only to be stretched out to about three innings.

  • Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Monday that playing time in left field between Andres Torres and Gregor Blanco will be determined by "whoever's the hottest with the bat."

  • Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo indicated Monday that he's open to a contract extension for SS Ian Desmond.

  • Giants 1B Brandon Belt was not in Tuesday's lineup due to a stomach bug.
  • C Wilin Rosario was replaced in Rockies' lineup Tuesday by Yorvit Torrealba who was catching Jorge De La Rosa. It sounds like Torrealba will be De La Rosa's personal catcher, at least for the time being.

American League:
  • Athletics SP Bartolo Colon will return from the suspended list to start Saturday against the Astros.

  • John Harper of the New York Daily News was told by a source that 2B Robinson Cano wants to get a deal done with the Yankees "sooner rather than later." Cano fired his agent Scott Boras earlier Tuesday in hopes of getting a deal done sooner.

Great new feature. As the season progresses, will the "<< Previous Column" function for the Daily Roundup be able to go all the back to day 1 of the season, i.e., March 31, or will there be a limit to the number of Previous Columns we are able to access (for instance, say, one week's worth of previous columns)? Thank you.
