Signed RHP Kevin Correia to a two-year, $10 million contract. [12/11]

Inflation isn’t always most striking in the salaries of baseball’s top players. Sometimes it’s the price hikes at the bottom of the market that make you recalibrate your sense of what players get paid. Yes, Zack Greinke got a little more money per season than any previous pitcher had, but Greinke getting really rich wasn’t unexpected. Kevin Correia cashing in, though—that’s when baseball’s new TV-money-mad market really starts to register.

In writing up Grilli, don't you have to tee up the knock-on effect that results from his signing? Namely, that Hanrahan will likely soon be the subject of a TA?

I can't help but wonder why the Yankees paid so much for Youkilis when they could've retained Chavez for cheaper... besides, A-Rod's only supposed to be out for a few months so Chavez seems a better fit as a stopgap.

But, over a half of season of at bats, is the difference in OBP between Youkilis and Chavez really worth 8 millionish?

You mentioned Kevin Correia's top BP comparables. Is there a place on the site to find those these days? I always thought those were the best part of PECOTA, and so far as I know, they haven't appeared on the player cards for some time.

Here in the 'Burgh Grilli represented the sure thing in the pen, especially since
Hanrahan frequently looked Mike Williams (he of walking the bases loaded in order to get a save.)
I have no idea why he struck out so many-I just hope he keeps it up 2013.

I understand that Correia below replacement level by definition since he has a negative WARP (and that WARP is also a rate stat). However, calling 174 innings with a 4.20 ERA and 1.30 WHIP below replacement level strays pretty far from the common-sense use of the words. It implies that most teams have one or more players in the minors who could be counted on to better such performance, which seem unlikely.

Of course, Correia may be unlikely to better that production in either of the next two years, which is what matters to the Twins.
