Thursday's Trots

Those four games didn't disappoint for the second night in a row and now we get to experience the first five-game quartet in Division Series history. You can't ask for more than that.

The day began in Cincinnati, where the Giants moved on to the National League Championship Series behind a grand slam from Buster Posey (video). In Washington, the Nationals pushed St. Louis into this evening's Game Five with a walkoff blast (video) from Jayson Werth (who proved a lot of sportswriters will use the same obvious puns whenever possible). The Orioles finally beat the Yankees in the thirteenth inning thanks to a double from JJ Hardy, but they never would have been in that situation if not for Nate McLouth's home run early in the game (video). And finally there was Oakland, where the A's ran into the buzzsaw known as Justin Verlander. There were no home runs hit in the Tigers shutout victory of Oakland. Maybe Detroit thought it'd be unfair to hit a few home runs while Verlander was on the hill?

Next stop: the League Championship Series!

Jayson Werth...23.91*
Nate McLouth...23.45
Buster Posey...23.1*
Adam LaRoche...21.73
Ryan Ludwick...20.34
