Things got real heated in the Cubs/Nationals game last night, when Chicago bench coach Jamie Quirk started sniping at Washington after Jayson Werth swung at a 3-0 pitch in the bottom of the fifth with a five-run lead. Meanwhile, elsewhere in the greater DC area, the Orioles held a five-run lead over the Yankees in the top of the 8th inning last night, only to have New York come back and tie it. The Orioles game (which they went on to win thanks to a few late-inning tater trots) only makes me like this quote from Washington manager Davey Johnson in regards to Chicago's complaints even more: "If they want to quit competing and forfeit, then fine. But we’re going to keep competing."

Now, let's get to the trots!

Home Run of the Day: Mark Reynolds, Baltimore Orioles #2 – 25.22 seconds [video]
Yes, Adam LaRoche hit another home run. And, yes, the Adam Jones home run in this game was the one that gave the Orioles the lead. Neither can match up with Mark Reynolds, though, who hit two home runs on Thursday night for the third time in the last seven games (all three against the Yankees). He also did this. If that is not worthy of Home Run of the Day, I don't know what is.

Slowest Trot: Mark Reynolds, Baltimore Orioles #2 – 25.22 seconds [video]
What else do you expect when a guy tosses his bat like Reynolds did there? The next slowest trot (of the 13 hit around the league on Thursday) also belonged to Reynolds, when he circled the bases in 23.6 seconds on his first trot.

Quickest Trot: Robert Andino, Baltimore Orioles – 19.68 seconds [video]
The only tater trot to clock in faster than 20-seconds last night. Eric Hosmer, at 20.11 seconds, was the next quickest. The Orioles hit six home runs on Thursday. Andino's was the fastest on the night; the other five trots took up slots #1, 2, 4, 5, & 6 on the slowest trots list.
