Apologies for the sporadic Tater Trot Tracker posts recently. It's something that happens in the long grind of the baseball season, I suppose. Maybe I should talk to Jose Canseco about better managing my time?

Let's get to the trots!

Home Run of the Day: Adam Dunn, Chicago White Sox #1 – 23.32 seconds [video]
Is there anyone not excited to see Adam Dunn mashing taters again (outside of AL Central opponents, I suppose)? I mean, I even like watching his home runs even despite the home run calls I have to hear when I see them. The guy is just so strong and can hit the ball so far sometimes. On Monday, Dunn's first home run was hit over the restaurant windows at the Rogers Centre, nearly dead to center. That's not a typical place for a home run to land. Even better is the look on Dunn's face as he rounds the bases. It's a perfect mix of amazement and non-chalance. Nice work. After his pair of home runs in Toronto, Dunn now leads the league with 33.

Slowest Trot: Nick Swisher, New York Yankees – 25.75 seconds [video]
The 200th home run of Swisher's career, a grand slam that put the Yankees up 4-2 early in the game. Clearly Swisher enjoyed the significance of the moment; his typical trot is well below 22 seconds. The next slowest trot of the night was from Rickie Weeks, who rounded the bases in the ninth inning of the Brewers loss in 24.26 seconds.

Quickest Trot: Carlos Gomez, Milwaukee Brewers – 17.22 seconds [video]
A great night for quick trots. Not only did Gomez blast a no-doubter in the thin Denver air (complete with bat drop!), but Houston's Brandon Barnes jumped in on the fun with his first career home run. For Barnes, the ball cleared the fence with no problems, but he never slowed down. Whether that's because Barnes is normally a quick trotter or if it's because he thought the ball was still in play, it's hard to say. Either way, he was barely behind Gomez, with a 17.32 trot for his first trip around the bases.

On Sunday, however, Oakland's Adam Rosales put Gomez and Barnes to shame. On his second home run of the season, Rosales edged closer to his old self with a 16.48 second trot (video). Rosales and Gomez now make up six of the ten quickest trots of the year (with Bryce Harper taking up two more spots). It now takes a trot faster than 17.1 seconds to make the list.
