Manny Machado, SS, Orioles (Double-A Bowie): 2-for-3, R, RBI, BB.

Bryce Harper and Mike Trout has been among the best things in baseball this year. For prospect people, they've been among the worst as they've created ridiculous expectations for every prospect in baseball. Manny Machado is 20 years old, more than holding his own at Double-A, and people yawn because Trout and Harper.
Those are the outliers, the players we frankly learn absolutely nothing from. What Machado is doing is really impressive, and by going 14-for-27 in his last seven games, he's hitting .265/.347/.427, and again, that's really impressive. Forget about Harper and Trout. They haven't changed what we should expect from prospects, and Machado really is having an impressive year.

Others Of Note:

  • Nolan Arenado, 3B, Rockies (Double-A Tulsa): 4-for-4, 2 2B, R, RBI, BB, CS. Hottest streak of the year by going 10-for-14 in last three games; .277/.339/.418 line still falls in disappointing side of the ledger.
  • Trevor Bauer, RHP, Diamondbacks (Triple-A Reno): 6 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K. Certainly his most efficient start at Triple-A, needing just 80 pitches.
  • Clint Coulter, C, Brewers (Rookie-level AZL Brewers): 3-for-5, 2 2B, 2 RBI. As good as he's been offensively, hitting .313/.432/.464 in 32 games is as bad as the first-round pick has been defensively, with 15 passed balls in just 18 games behind the plate while throwing out 4 of 37 (11%) base stealers.
  • Zack Cox, 3B, Marlins (Double-A Jacksonville): 2-for-5, 3B, R, 3 RBI, 2 K. Marlins system debut; note drop to Double-A.
  • Corey Dickerson, OF, Rockies (Double-A Tulsa): 2-for-5, HR (10), R, 2 RBI, BB, K. This year's breakout player in the system is not toolsy but has very real power; .286/.342/.549 in 47 games since promotion.
  • Cameron Garfield, C, Brewers (Low-A Wisconsin): 3-for-3, 2 HR (8), 2 RBI, BB. 2009 second-round pick is catcher with power, patience and long injury history; .282/.378/.519 in 46 games.
  • Kevin Guasman, RHP, Orioles (Short-season Aberdeen): 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K. Perfect debut for No. 4 overall pick.
  • Johnny Giavotella, 2B, Royals (Triple-A Omaha): 3-for-5, 2B, 2 RBI. Up to .332/.416/.497 overall with nine multi-hit games in last 14 starts; yes, the defense isn't good, but he deserves a chance to show that the bat can make up for it.
  • Billy Hamilton, SS, Reds (Double-A Pensacola): 0-for-2, 3 BB, K. 2 SB, CS. Hard to know what to make of him suddenly turning into a walk machine; .267/.400/.372 in 25 games.
  • Zach Lee, RHP, Dodgers (Double-A Chattanooga): 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K. Best Double-A start in eight chances, ERA still an ugly 6.31.
  • Lance McCullers, RHP, Astros (Rookie-level Greenville): 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 4 K. Appy league debut for supplemental first-round pick.
  • Michael Perez, C, Diamondbacks (Rookie-level Missoula): 3-for-4, 2 HR (7), 3 R, 5 RBI, BB, K. 2011 fifth-round pick has impressed at plate and behind it; .319/.375/.622 in 34 games.
  • Yasel Puig, OF, Dodgers (Rookie-level AZL Dodgers): 1-for-2, HR (3), 2 R, RBI, BB, K. 0-for-4 in pro debut but 8-for-16 with 21 total bases since.
  • Daniel Robertson, SS/3B, Athletics (Rookie-level AZL A's): 3-for-4, 2B, 3B, 3 R, 3 RBI, BB. Supplemental first-round pick has shown power, pure hitting ability and an approach; .308/.410/.571 in 28 games.
  • Carlos Sanchez, 2B/SS, White Sox (Double-A Birmingham): 3-for-4, 2B, R, RBI, CS. Just keeps hitting, but little power and patience; .382/.425/.485 in 16 games since promotion.
  • Jake Smolinski, OF, Marlins (Double-A Jacksonville): 2-for-2, HR (5), 3 R, 2 RBI, 3 BB. Remains a nice sleeper due to on-base skills and gap power; .271/.402/.401 in 88 games.
  • Blake Snell, LHP, Rays (Rookie-level Princeton): 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K. Supplemental first-rounder from 2011 is high on polish, medium on stuff; 1.59 ERA in ten starts.
  • Oscar Taveras, OF, Cardinals (Double-A Springfield): 3-for-5, 2B, HR (20), 3 R, 2 RBI, SB. In the argument for best pure hitter in the minors; .323/.386/.577 in 105 games.
