Many batters can't throw a curve. Many at-bats end without the batters making any throws back to the mound. Is this a proverb for NL pitchers, who get a chance to pitch to the other guy?

I would like the advice to say, within a baseball metaphor, that when adversity comes, you overcome it. This one says, you just do it back to them, right? More like, "sometimes life throws you a curveball, so you just have to keep your hands back and try to drive it." It wouldn't apply to AL pitchers. They'll need their own aphorisms, outside of interleague play.
