Tater Trot Tracker

The Weekend's Trot Times

by Larry Granillo

I was out of town this weekend, busy watching some low-A baseball, Star Wars Night fun up in Appleton, Wisconsin. Sadly, Minnesota uber-prospect Miguel Sano didn't actually walk up to the Imperial March. He did, however, get a nice Darth Vader headshot up on the video board.

Having been away from the Tater Trot Tracker for a full weekend - a weekend where MLBers combined to hit 104 home runs, no less - here's a quick look at what happened since the weekend. Let's see those trots!

Home Run of the Day: Russell Martin, New York Yankees #2 - 20.82* seconds [video]
Martin's second home run on Sunday was far from the only walkoff shot from the weekend, but it gets Home Run of the Day notice for the celebration. Watch the video. As Martin jumps into his crowd of teammates, he lands on the plate and immediately falls (or is pulled) to the ground. It was very much shades of Kendrys Morales' injury from two years ago. Martin was fine and even mentioned that the celebration got a little out of hand. However, the Morales injury only changed teams' behaviors for about ten days, if that (and remember, I see every walkoff celebration). I don't expect the Martin celebration to make any difference whatsoever.

Slowest Trot: Alfonso Soriano, Chicago Cubs - 27.33 seconds [video]
One of three trots from Soriano this weekend. This slowest trot was on Saturday afternoon. Friday night, Soriano hit two home runs as well. The second trot that night is also the second slowest trot of the weekend at 26.37 seconds, followed by a 26.25 second trot from Jason Kipnis on Sunday and a 26.0 second trot from Jim Thome.

Quickest Trot: Everth Cabrera, San Diego Padres - 15.14 seconds [video]
The first inside the park home run in a few weeks. Cabrera was the beneficiary of a poorly timed dive by Carlos Gomez. The ball got under Gomez's glove and rolled all the way to the centerfield wall, giving Cabrera plenty of time to round the bases.

Outside of the inside the parker, the quickest trot of the weekend is actually a tie between New York Met Omar Quintanilla and Bryce Harper. They each rounded the bases in 18.03 seconds, a nice, speedy trot (though not near quick enough for the Top 10 board anymore).
