Trot Times for May 18

Justin Verlander gives up a basehit to Josh Harrison in the ninth inning? Maybe he should be demoted to the bullpen. At least it was the DH who got the hit. And if you're impressed by pitchers taking no-hitters into the late innings, just know that Nolan Ryan had a no-hitter in the seventh inning or later 31 times!

Let's get to the trots!

Home Run of the Day: Nick Markakis, Baltimore Orioles - 23.9 seconds [video]
Maybe the Nationals were just nervous because Adam Jones was on-deck. Whatever it was, Markakis launched his home run in the top of the 11th inning to give the Orioles the go-ahead run.

Slowest Trot: Delmon Young, Detroit Tigers - 25.63 seconds [video]
This home run was extra insurance for Verlander, making it 3-0 in the fourth inning. There was little remarkable about the trot itself, though. Adrian Gonzalez had the second slowest trot of the night at 25.23 seconds.

Quickest Trot: Will Venable, San Diego Padres - 18.38 seconds [video]
The Padres busted out some of the old uniforms last night, though the Angels didn't look interested in playing along. Maybe that inspired Venable on his quick trot (okay, maybe not). Kansas City's Billy Butler trotted home in 22.43 seconds. That's not exactly fast for a normal player but, for Butler, it might just be considered an inside-the-park home run.
