Tracking 2012's Top Prospects

by Bradley Ankrom

4/27 UPDATE: The Baseball Prospectus Prospect Tracker is now located at baseballprospectus.com/prospect_tracker.

Prospect connoisseurs, meet your new home page.

Introducing Baseball Prospectus' new (and free!) Top 101 and Top 11 Prospects stats pages, your one-stop source for current and comprehensive information about the game's up-and-coming stars.

In addition to viewing rankings and statistics for this season, you can also wax nostalgic about the prospects of yesteryear, dating back to 2007, with just a click of the mouse. Are you curious which of Kevin's Top 101 prospects hit the most home runs in 2008? Sort by clicking the "HR" column header and you'll quickly see that Chris Carter led the way with 39. Learn more about Carter by clicking on his name and visiting his full player card. Following your favorite team's best and brightest prospects is as simple as bookmarking their Top 11 prospects page (here's an example).

Oh...uh..(spits out 'what I'm drinking')...YES!

I don't have to search for my favorite players on milb...or click through what seems like a bajillion menus to get to that player's team stats page each time.

Yes. Very cool.

Way Cool !!

FYI You Still Have Rizzo with Padres!

Yes, that's a quirk of timing. Rizzo was ranked as a Padre but dealt to Chicago after the Cubs' list had already been published. Similar case for Jesus Montero, who was traded to Seattle after the Mariners list had run, but before he was able to be ranked as a Yankee... so he doesn't appear on any 2012 top 11.

Could there be a PA column as well? I expect PA negligence (PAN) from mainstream media, but not you, Baseball Prospectus. PAN is a widespread and dangerous disease, infecting everyone from broadcasters to players. Fortunately, it is easily treatable with a small serving of education.

Might be useful to allow you to pick a previous year prospect list, but still show current year stats.

Nice. Could you add mouseover comments on the headings, specifically what the "H" and "I" mean in the STARS column? Thanks!

The mouseovers are a great idea. The "H"s and "I"s should render as filled-in stars and outlined stars, respectively. Can you tell me what browser/operating system you're using?

One thing that would be really useful is a direct link to the top 11 article on each page. If it was possible, and I realise it would involve more work, it would be useful to have some info on what's happened to the missing players (eg. in extended spring training, injured or whatever).

As a minor detail, Kirk Niewenhuis is showing up twice on the Mets page.

Finally, I'm also getting the H/I stuff with IE8/Windows 7.

Ignore the Nieuwenhuis comment - he's listed twice because he's played at two levels. I'm clearly less intelligent early in the mornings.
