A new PECOTA spreadsheet was released today. Fantasy and Premium subscribers can download it by clicking here. If you haven't read Colin Wyers' article on the weighting changes that have been made this year, it's worth reviewing to fully appreciate these projections.

The latest update includes:

  • A link to the PECOTA glossary
  • League (LG) affiliation column for all players
  • Players' first and last names in separate columns
  • Singles and total hits for batters
  • Updated heights and weights that conform to the MLB.com listings (we were using the ones from the SABR master player registry)
  • VORP column added for batters

We will continue to make tweaks and adjustments as necessary and will soon be publishing a FAQ article that addresses many of the comments and questions surrounding this week's release of PECOTA.

Projections for Japanese and Cuban players about to begin their first year in Major League Baseball are on their way as well. We'll have an update on those individuals this week.

Thank you for all your suggestions and support.

Great job! It is nice to see BP so responsive to the needs/wants of their readership!

Miguel Cabrera is going to give third base a try this year. Miguel Cabrera gained 60 pounds in the last three days. This can't possibly end well!

I don't see "Fair Ra" in the glossary anywhere. That appears to be an old glossary with terms that are not even used in your new spreadsheets, like all the "Eq" stuff...

MGL...I will check with Colin on this and update the spreadsheet and link as soon as possible. Thanks

Added. It was under "FRA" and I added it to the PECOTA category. We do need to do some housekeeping on those outmoded stats, thanks for the heads up.

Data from 200 keepers disappeared from the PFM with the update. Is there a way to get that information back without checkmarking all of them again?

Will check on it with our stats guys now. Thanks for the heads up.

Hey Guancous -

Sorry that happened, I know what a pain it is to check off all those names again!

I'll try to dig up your league based on your userid, and see if I can figure out if we still have the data, but I'm not optimistic. Can you send me the league ID (the ?cid= after the PFM URL, such as 6430 in this URL http://pfm.baseballprospectus.com/index.php?cid=6430), if you have a lot of leagues.

For issues with individual leagues such as this, people can feel free to use the Contact Us form and send them to me directly, though I'll read these comments, also.

How do you mark players as taken? I do see any option to do so (I have read the Detailed Help section, and there is no mention of it).

By setting "Use Inflation" to YES.

And if it's a straight draft (not auction), I would enter in the $ value based on the original, unadjusted projected value when I'm storing keepers. As in, is Albert Pujols is projected to earn $37.52 in at the beginning, when he is selected enter 37.52 in the price block and use the checkbox if he's on your team.
I would surmise that would keep values from getting too out of whack.

Thanks. Would also be good if BP could add the option to input keeper (or otherwise unavailable) players in the main interface, independent of other settings. E.g., provide a link to "edit available player pool."

I d/l'd it and all I got was the "read-only" page with no tabs on the bottom.

Jake...I sent you the spreadsheet again. I don't know why that's happening. I see everything just fine. Anyone else having this problem?

yes I am also. No tabs on the bottom, just the read-me. I'm on a Mac, could that be the problem?

Nevermind, I redownloaded it and it is fixed.

Are there updates to the actual counting stats (r,hr,rbi, etc.)? Or just technical stuff with the spreadsheet? Thanks.

Whenever we generate a new spreadsheet, the players in the various Depth Charts are given their projected playing time based on their Depth Chart entries (ones who are not in the DC are given the standard "book" playing time estimates, which are based on past seasons and have a "floor"). We've had a few relatively minor Depth Chart changes over the past few days, so you'll see a few stats changes

Any chance to have Quality Starts (QS) and Complete Games (CG) added? Thank you.

You can find quality starts in the data that fuels the PFM (http://pfm.baseballprospectus.com/) but not complete games.
cwyers

As Ben notes, QS is available in the PFM; I'll add it to the next spreadsheet run. I'll look at how feasible it is to project CG.

By the way, we've heard from some people who have had problems sorting by PFM dollar values when they export to CSV from the PFM and then open the CSVs in OpenOffice. To alleviate this problem, please make sure that the "Quoted field as text" box is not checked, and "Detect Special Numbers" is checked. That will ensure that OOo is importing the dollar values as dollar values instead of as text, and then sorting will work properly.

does the spreadsheet have H(hits)?
i am looking for the total number of projected singles
i am not able to find this stat in the spreadsheet

The Feb 11 spreadsheet has 1B. Thanks.

1. downloaded Feb11 spreadsheet
2. TB (total bases) is not correct for most players
3. TB = 1B + (2B*2) + (3B*3) + (HR*4)
4. only about 10% of players have correct TB
joechris96

We're in the process of correcting TBs. It will be fixed on the next spreadsheet (to be uploaded soon).

It would be cool if the PFM exportable spreadsheet included the depth chart data on lineup position(s).

1. Are the slash lines what the player would hit in a neutral park? I.e., if it says Maybin is .250/.318/.383 is that in a neutral park or in SD?

2. I assume the WARP column still needs to be adjusted for the estimated playing time shown in the PA column (e.g., Manny Ramirez with 2.9WARP in only 250PA?)

Thanks

I will echo others thanking you for making many of the changes or additions that have been suggested.

I am hopeful that adding the SS/Sim value is still on your "to do" list for all the Scoresheet and sim players out there.
dpease

SS/Sim is in the PFM.

When I run the PFM with positional adjustment on, I am still getting too few players. I think there may be something going on with the DH position. When I switch DH to 0, I get the "right" number of players.

A slightly off-topic question: When will the 2012 BP Annual be shipping through Amazon.com?

If I order now, would it be likely/definitely delivered in the US by February 28?

Thanks very much.
joechris96

I really don't have specific information from Amazon, but I do know that the book is now out and is showing up around the country. I would guess that if you ordered now, you would likely have it by Feb 28th.

Just wanted to say I really like the ability to select certain teams. It can come in handy this year knowing that the Astros are moving from the NL to the AL. If I don't want to select any Astros in my NL auction keeper league, I can make them disappear and adjust the number of dollars to match that assumption.
