Update 2/11/12: did you know the depth charts now list players both by lineup slot and position?  You can now view each team's depth chart in either way by using the buttons above the hitters section.  Please let us know what you think.

Update 2/11/12: a new release of the PECOTA spreadsheet is available with lots of requested improvements.  We put up a separate post with the details.

Update 2/9/12 12:40pm Pac: SS/Sim is now available in the PFM.  We haven't looked at the data closely yet… let us know what you're seeing in the comments.

Update 2/9/12 10:20am Pac: the PFM is now available.  Hit 'fantasy' in the menu bar to get to the Fantasy homepage, and you'll have a link to the PFM in the Fantasy link box in the right-hand column.

Update 2/9/12 10:00am Pac: the Depth Charts are now available.  Hit 'depth charts' in the menu bar to get there from any BP page.

We turned on BP Fantasy subscriptions today, and we'll be rolling out features as we finish them, and making updates to this post.  Drop by anytime for the latest status, or to leave a Fantasy question or comment.

  • The PECOTA spreadsheet was released this morning.  Fantasy and Premium subscribers can download it by clicking here.  If you haven't read Colin Wyers' article on the weighting changes that have been made this year, have a look at it–it was really interesting watching these changes develop.

  • We are finishing up PFM and the depth charts for 2012.  Based on suggestions from long-time subscribers and fantasy players, we've made some significant changes to depth charts and playing time estimates this year… we'll have more on that soon.

  • We don't have an ETA for player cards yet, but we've been working on those as well.  The player cards currently do not display 2012 projections–any projections that are displayed are the ones from 2011.  We'll get that cleaned up so its not so confusing.

Thanks for your patience, and please email customer service or drop us a comment in this thread if you have any questions or comments.

I'm not worked up about it, but the banner made it seem like the PFM and depth charts would be up today, along with PECOTA.

Sorry, we expected to have it ready this morning but some of the changes we made ended up causing some confusion.

The playing time estimates themselves are done and reflected in the PECOTA spreadsheet, and we'll have depth charts and PFM ready asap.

Good to know. Thanks.

Can you write up what methodology is used to generate peripheral stat projections? E.g., R, RBI, SB, W, L.

There's three component to the SB projections - first from the projected batting lines we come up with stolen base opportunities (largely based on walks and singles). Then we project stolen base attempts per opportunity, and then success rate on top of that.

For the team-dependent stats, there's several inputs and it varies a bit. For R and RBI, what we really project is R-HR and RBI-HR, and then add HR to come up with R and RBI. On-base ability and power are the chief inputs, along with stolen bases. Pitcher W-L is based on projected RA and IP per game, along with expected run support (using the depth charts values for hitters).

I am heading to Vegas today and would love to have the projected standings to make some futures and over/under bets. When are those coming?

I'm seeing Youkilis as a 1B in the PFM. Am I somehow getting an old version?

I too couldn't get Youk as a 3B. Keeper decisions are riding on this bug. But awesome job getting everything up and running this year, BP team.

Sorry about that--we'll check it out.

Is there a reason some people don't show up? I can't see Mesoraco, for instance.

That's weird--we're looking at it. Devin Mesoraco's projection is in the spreadsheet if you need it immediately.

I take it the PFM is still not working? (it has Matt Kemp for 26 HRs, last years projections I assume.)
dpease

That is Kemp's actual projection.

For me, the PFM is not spitting out enough players. It's fine on the pitching side, but I am not getting the right number of hitters to make the league "work". It may be that certain players are being counted at two positions rather than being counted only at the "right" position base on scarcity. Does that make sense?

you bet--this may be related to Devin Mesoraco not being in PFM, which another commenter reported above. We're looking at it.

On a technical note, when I click on the link to PECOTA on my MacBook Pro using Chrome, it downloaded "download.php" rather than the spreadsheet itself. It worked fine when I switched to Safari.
