Ted Williams, Free Agent

by Larry Granillo

From the August 20, 1940, edition of the Telegraph-Herald in Dubuque, Iowa. A "one-minute interview" with Ted Williams, by Eddie Brietz (who I'm guessing is an AP writer):

The Kid was two weeks shy of his 22nd birthday at the time.

Wow. I like how even at that young age he's still so self confident. Imagine a guy like like hitting the FA market at 22 in this day and age?! Yowza.

Wow, what would he get as a free agent after 2 amazing seasons? 12 years, 330 million?

Dodgers had an OF of Pete Reiser, Joe Medwick, and Dixie Walker in 1941. Each had a WAR of 5.9 or greater, but perhaps the Dodgers could have made room for Ted. :-)
