Those of you expecting baseball content today, please bear with me. I have some news that I want to share, something that has all of us at Baseball Prospectus excited.

Next month, Brassey's Sports will publish Pro Football Prospectus 2002, by Sean Lahman and Todd Greanier. It is the first non-baseball product to bear the Prospectus name. Additionally, we'll be launching Pro Football Prospectus Online, which will have the same relationship to the book as this Web site does to our flagship product, providing great football content year-round.

For years, we've talked among ourselves about the idea of Prospectus books other than the baseball one. Baseball lends itself best to the type of work we do, but there was a belief that the methods and the attitude could be applied to other sports as well. We're fortunate to have found the people who can take that idea and run with it, creating a book that we can proudly call a Prospectus.

I've edited Pro Football Prospectus 2002–it's one reason why the "Daily" Prospectus has been less so of late–and believe me when I say that it upholds the standards we've set on the baseball side. The tools are innovative and illustrative, the writing is hard-hitting and accurate, and the analysis is the best in the business. In the same way that BP came about because a bunch of baseball fans wanted to write the book they wanted to read, Sean and Todd have translated their love for the game and their knowledge of it into a book that will become the standard in football annuals.

This isn't all. Later this year, John Hollinger's Pro Basketball Prospectus 2002 will be released. Many of you may know John's name from his alleyoop.com Web site (which will become probasketballprospectus.com later this year). John brings his own analytical tools and writing style to the Prospectus family, and as with Sean and Todd and the football book, we're very fortunate to have his talent on board.

This whole thing started seven years ago, with five guys who really didn't know what they were doing but did something anyway. Now, with seven annuals behind us and a thriving Web site and an audience that never let us rest on our laurels, we're taking the next step, and hoping that you'll come with us.
