Friday was the last full day of ballgames before Hurricane Irene and whatever she ends up bringing hits the baseball world. I hope everyone in the path is staying safe and finding interesting things to keep busy.

Now let's get to the trots!

Home Run of the Day: Matt Kemp, Los Angeles Dodgers – 24.11 seconds [video]
Matt Kemp is having a pretty good season. His home run on Friday, one of two hit in the Dodgers' six-run seventh inning that gave them the game, was the 30th of the year for Kemp. With his 33 stolen bases, the home run put Kemp in the 30/30 club for the first time in his career. Mark Reynolds also hit his 30th home run on Friday, but his 30/30 membership is questionable.

Slowest Trot: Russell Branyan, Los Angeles Angels – 27.47 seconds [video]
David Ortiz and Alex Rodriguez gave us valiant 25-second trots in their efforts to win Slowest Trot, but, as is the case often when Russell Branyan appears on the scene, it wasn't enough.

Quickest Trot: Dustin Pedroia, Boston Red Sox – 18.53 seconds [video]
One of two 18-second trots (and six sub-twenty second trots). Evan Longoria hit two home runs on Friday, rounding the bases in 18.91 seconds and 19.13 seconds, but it wasn't enough to match the speedy Pedroia. Same for Brett Lawrie's 19.08 second trot up in Toronto.

I'm sorry, I can't help commenting. Did the announcer really say, "A 3-run Jimmy Jack for Russell Branyon?"

Is that actual baseball slang, or just nonsense made up spur of the moment? Is it his usual shtick? Because it just sounded ridiculous.
