I have to spend the next few days in California taking care of some family stuff, so you probably won't seen anything from me again (including the daily Tater Trot Tracker posts) until Sunday or Monday. Sorry, but there's not much I can do about that.

I'm at the airport now, getting ready to fly out, so all I have is one of Tuesday's home runs timed, but, boy, is it a doozy (and, yes, I did just pay $7.95 to type this out – I'm totally claiming it on my taxes next year!).

Let's get to the trot!

Home Run of the Day: David Ortiz, Boston Red Sox – 29.56 seconds [video]
I think it would behoove you to watch that video in its entirety. I believe the New York media is making Papi's bat flip – and Derek Zoolander-esque left turn – to be the biggest atrocity in the tater trot. It is pretty flamboyant – well, the turn is, at least – but that's not what slowed his trot down so much. Papi reached first base in a fairly-regular ~8 seconds. What took him so long was his trot from third to home and, most especially, those last three or four steps. If he took those at a normal clip, it's probably a 28-second trot (big, but not all that abnormal). As it is, he took his sweet, sweet time reaching the plate and, as such, nearly broke the 30-second mark for the second time since I began the Tracker.

I have to say, I'm hoping he doesn't hit one again this weekend. I don't want to be stuck in a situation where I can't track another 30-seconder.

All of Today's Trots

(That's all I have today. I'm sorry.)
