Sorry for the late Tater Trot Tracker post today. Sometimes the day job doesn't give me enough time at lunch to get the trots tracked. We'll make this one a bit brief then and hope that the trots from this weekend give us all we need.

Enough of that. Let's get to the trots!

Home Run of the Day: Johnny Damon, Tampa Bay Rays – 18.55 seconds [video]
I'm not the biggest Johnny Damon fan, but there's no doubt in my mind that this walkoff home run off of Minnesota's Matt Capps hit in the tenth inning after the Rays tied it in the ninth is without a doubt the trot of the year so far. The home run itself isn't all that different from other walkoff shots, but the trot was fantastic. It was ultra-fast (walkoff are usually slower than normal trots, in the 23-second range) and ended with a boisterous leap that even someone whose tired of the "leap into your teammates" act could enjoy.

Nice work, Johnny. Nice work.

Slowest Trot: Scott Hairston, New York Mets – 23.75 seconds [video]
There was nothing particularly slow about this trot. It's just one of those trots that, when you add it up, comes in a tad slow. Of course, on most days it wouldn't even be in the running for "slowest".

Quickest Trot: Johnny Damon, Tampa Bay Rays – 18.55 seconds [video]
There were sixteen home runs hit across the league on Thursday, yet Damon's walkoff was the only one to come in under twenty-seconds. One thing I failed to mention above is the girl who ended up with the ball after it went over the fence. She's completely surprised and maybe shocked at the start of the video, when the ball clears the fence, but, by the time the camera comes back to her, she seems to be overjoyed. Just another thing that makes Damon's trot so much fun to watch.

(Remember: I am running an experiment over the next couple of weeks. If you're interested in Tater Trot Tracker commentary during the day, follow the Tater Trot Tracker on Twitter at @TaterTrotTrkr. We'll see how it goes. You can also follow me at @Wezen_Ball.)

I always like the "yeah, I've done this before" attitude when game winners occur, so kudos to Damon for the quick trip around the bases but it is also nice to see a little enthusiasm for the game too.

With all the video around and therefore counts on every HR hit this year - that sounds like a pool for the longest and shortest trots and extra points for predicting who does them.
