It's a rare opportunity for one to get to interview a personal hero, but we'll get to that in a bit. We'll start with the baseball stuff, as after plenty of email and a long discussion about the Michael Young soap opera, we go prospect heavy with detailed discussions of the recently published Reds, Braves and Rangers prospect lists, as well as Jason's piece this week on the Texas farm system. Then it's pop culture time, with special guest Steve Albini, a legend in the world of independent music. We talk Chicago punk, recording ethos and why Oney Guillen of all people is a friendly rival. It's a great interview, and to be honest, no baseball-related guest would have excited me as much. Then it's the goofy stuff, as Jason relates his dangerous Super Bowl Sunday.

Note: We do alert you to the presence of the occasional adult language. Don't say we didn't warn you.

I can't believe that this episode isn't called "Crazy Freaks and Assholes Can Do Great Things."

Excellent stuff, guys, and a particularly great job giving space to a really interesting conversation with Albini about economics and art on the interview.

Albini doing a Neil Young record would be totally insane, in a good way.

So as Kevin said, everyone's musical tastes have been touched by Albini. So I had to look it up. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Albini_discography). I have a pretty large musical collection, but it took me a while until I found the aural space where Albini and I converge - Gogol Bordello's Gypsy Punks Underdog World Strike.

I think the amazing thing about this list is as amazingly large as it is, it's incredibly incomplete. He's literally touched thousands of releases.

"He's literally touched thousands of releases." So have I, but I only ended up purchasing 800 or so....

Albini is so full of shit. He's awesome, and I love him.

Also, Atomizer is one of the best records ever made. 80 grade album.

If that article was discussed on the podcast, would it be in the baseball portion, the pop-culture portion, or the "what are you drinking?" portion of the show?
