Baseball Prospectus 2011 is close to hitting the street. It ships from our publisher's warehouse on Valentine's Day (BP is for lovers) and will start reaching shelves and Amazon and B&N pre-order recipients shortly after that. Despite an official street date of February 22, it should be around well before then.

We are still putting the finishing touches on this year's book tour, and not a lot is set in stone. I only know two dates for certain as of this writing. We will be in Politics & Prose, the Happiest Place on Earth, in Washington on March 7 and the De Paul University Bookstore (Loop Campus) in Chicago on March 9. We should have other dates as soon as Monday, so look for this post to be updated. Expect Boston and New York dates to be added at minimum.

I do have one dilemma that I need your advice to resolve. The Yogi Berra Museum is on the 60-Day DL with a bad case of remodeling, so, sadly, we will not be able to make our annual trip there. I am told that we can get one, perhaps even two New Jersey bookstore events in its place. Now, Yogi events have always been well-attended, but other NJ events we've done sporadically over the years have been hit and miss, so here is what I want to ask you:

1. If we were to do two NJ events, say, one in North Jersey, one in Central, would you come to none, one, both?

2. If our options for Central included Princeton and Menlo Park (Edison) what is your preference? Christina and I did a little event in Princeton years ago that was nicely attended, and I've always wanted to get back there.

For those in the area who might attend, I appreciate your input. Thanks to everyone, and I hope you enjoy BP 2011 when you see it just over a week from now.

UPDATE: I have just confirmed that we will be in Boston on March 15. At noon that day, we will be at Northeastern University, and at 7 PM we will be at a favorite of ours, the Boston University Barnes & Noble. Marc Normandin and I will be there for certain and we will be joined by at least one or more BPers. Hope to see thousands of you there.

Thank you for reading

Come to Pittsburgh for an event.

You'll get far fewer New Jersians to show up after knocking the state in the headline. ;)

What time for the Chicago 3/9 event? Or I suppose I could camp out all day. :-)

I'll do my best to attend an event this year, whether in NYC or central NJ. Happy to toast in another season with all ya'll.

I second the Pittsburgh recommendation.

I'd be more likely to attend at Menlo vs Princeton. Hopeful this will happen!

Toronto, please. And here's to hoping the usual delays for Canadian shipments are not in store again this year.

I'd attend anywhere in NJ. Princeton may make a lot of sense, as you cater more towards a thinking crowd (although Menlo with Edison...).

I can get you a pretty big space on the Rutgers New Brunswick campus for free, but need 2 weeks notice to do so.

They did Rutgers-NB (I think) two years ago. It was nice but I think they'd get more of a crowd at Menlo or Princeton. My vote would be Princeton.

If the schedule worked out so I could attend (weekend?), then Princeton would be much more convenient for me than Edison would. If it's on a weeknight, then NYC preferred, generally.

Speaking selfishly, as an NYCer I'd rather we do a second event here in the city, since we can reach a larger group of people from . We used to do multiple ones here, even getting out to Brooklyn.

Then again, after the success of the recent Foley's event, we're gung ho on the idea of doing more occasional get-togethers in the city even without a bookstore.

+1 for a Brooklyn event

I vote for a stop in Munich, Germany. I may be the only attendee, but that would work out well for me?

Seriously, I'm looking forward to the 2011 book. I'm hoping the PECOTA cards come out online today as planned, but nothing like holding the book. Now I have to wait longer to get it (unless you want to go ahead and forward one, lol!) but it will be worth the wait I am sure.

Oh, and if there was anyway to a digital version of the book, say, on Kindle (since that is what I have and I am selfish), it would be great.

If you did one in Princeton, and I was home, I would attend, FWIW.

Definitely Menlo over Princeton. Never been to an event but would love to go to one.

Another thing to throw out there: are folks interested in a March event in Phoenix while Perfessor Parks and I are in Arizona?

Well, if it's between March 17th and March 21st, I'll be there, in lieu of an actual event in the SF Bay Area . . .

North Jersey, please! This land of sparing virtue, which takes literally McDonald's instructions to "put litter where it belongs" - on the ground, of course - needs such a break from brutal winter and itself.

I'd go to a North Jersey event, if it were closer to me than the NYC event (which won't be easy, as I live in Hoboken).

Have it at Foley's, and then tell us all we can't come. :-) Kidding. But for NYC you should see about the Housing Works bookstore, a great charity to support and a nice space to boot.

I remember about 3 yrs ago, there was a Fantasy Baseball event at Housing Works w/ Sam Walker and Ron Shandler. Another great bookstore in NYC for events is Strand, they had a great one for the writers of the new Free Darko book for all you hoop fans out there.

Will you be in Philadelphia this year? I know there have been issues finding the right venue in the past.

I don't THINK so, but Princeton, if we do Princeton, is reasonably close...

As another Philly attendee (every year), I would suck it up and head to Princeton if the event were there. Edison is too much for a weeknight.

I made it to the previous Christina/Steven Princeton event and agree with Steven that it was well attended - we did fill the room. I'd like to think we'd need a bigger room in Princeton if there is no Philly event as part of the book tour.

"The Happiest Place on Earth" . . . a joke about the name Politics and Prose? Or is it actually happy? (DC resident - will try to see you there if it doesn't interfere with any good college bball).
jjaffe
2/08
I don't know how happy they actually are, but Politics and Prose certainly make BP happy when we visit there. We draw well over 100 people year in and year out, have a great relationship with the staff there, and get a particularly strong sell-through rate.

If every bookstore event were like P&P, we'd be able to justify a lot more of them.

As an aside, if you tell us where you're (likely) having an event in NYC or Princeton, I will make a point of going to *that* store to buy my copy of the Annual. Every year. Regardless of whether I can go to the actual event.

It's one of the last of the great independent book stores. I was in the Barnes & Noble at Union Square in NYC today, and now not even the great chain bookstores are bookstores--they're toy stores with some books in them. This can only end badly.

If you do a Milwaukee event, I suspect ("though I have absolutely no reason for this belief") that the entire Pitch FX crew for Milwaukee would attend. We're only 90 miles (and a great train ride) up the coast from Chicago.
