Just a quickie, as most leagues had the day off, with Puerto Rico's one game being the only one outside of Arizona.

  • Dustin Ackley, 2B, Mariners (AFL: Javelinas): 1-for-2, R, 2 RBI, 5 BB, K. Has suddenly turned into Eddie Yost with nine walks against just 18 at-bats; could compete for OBP titles in the big leagues.
  • Engel Beltre, OF, Rangers (AFL: Rafters): 4-for-6, 2B, HR (1), 2 R, 3 RBI, K, 2 SB. Has among the best packages of tools in the league; needs to find consistency.
  • Dee Gordon, SS, Dodgers (PR: Gigantes); 2-for-4, R, RBI, CS. 6-for-13 in three games; tools have never been an issue.
  • Jose Iglesias, SS, Red Sox (AFL: Javelinas): 2-for-6, R, RBI, SB. Hitting .294 in nine games but no extra base hits and just one walk; might not matter the way scouts drool over his defense.
  • Casey Kelly, RHP, Red Sox (AFL: Javelinas): 2 IP, 8 H, 8 R, 1 BB, 2 K. First ugly outing after a pair of good ones; sat at 89-92 mph but was elevating all night.
  • Bobby Kielty, OF (PR: Indios): 1-for-3, 2 RBI, BB, K. Yup, THAT Bobby Kielty.
  • Devin Mesoraco, C, Reds (AFL: Saguaros): 2-for-4, R, K. Breakout player during regular season is struggling a bit so far; but could be out of gas.
  • Chris Parmelee, 1B, Twins (AFL: Saguaros): 2-for-4, 2 2B, 4 RBI. 2006 first-round pick has kind of fallen off the radar, but some scouts still see potential in the bat and he's only 22.
  • Trayvon Robinson, OF, Dodgers (AFL: Desert Dogs): 2-for-4, HR (1), 3 RBIs. A little bit of power is just gravy considering his on-base skills.
  • Andrew Romine, SS, Angels (AFL: Solar Sox): 3-for-4, 2 R, 2 SB. Not exactly a monster prospect, but you could do worse than a shortstop with speed and on-base skills. Oh yeah, both stolen bases occurred with brother Austin behind the plate.
  • Jerry Sands, 1B, Dodgers (AFL: Desert Dogs): 2-for-3, 2B, RBI, BB. It's surprising that he's yet to go deep in Arizona; all other indicators are strong (6-for-20 w/ 6 BB).

Any chance Robinson competes for the LF job this spring? Doesn't seem to be much of a chance the Dodgers go after Crawford or Werth.

I'd be surprised. I think he's more of a '12 play.

how much useful tools does dee gordon have if he can't hit for a lick of power?

Plus-plus speed, good arm, potential to hit and maybe be a really good SS or CF? That's a lot of useful tools, no?

Love the extra comment about the Romines. Being run on by his brother has got to cheese Austin off royally. I mean, he's probably been dealing with it since age 5.

Though when Austin throws brother Andrew out, he probably gets a little extra satisfaction.

Unless he never could!
