Manny Banuelos, LHP, Yankees (High-A Tampa): 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K

After missing much of the first half due to an appendectomy, Banuelos is quickly making up for lost time, as the 19-year-old Mexico native has a 1.64 ERA in nine Florida State League starts with 56 strikeouts in just 38.1 innings. While undersized at just five-foot-ten, Banuelos has pure power stuff, including a fastball that's been up to 94-95 mph at times this year and a much improved power breaker.

Brody Colvin, RHP, Phillies (Low-A Lakewood): 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R (0 ER), 1 BB, 6 K

When the Phillies signed Colvin at last year's deadline to a $900,000 deal, Colvin was seen as a raw product who would take time to develop. Those opinions were reinforced when after seven Sally League starts, the right-hander had a 8.40 ERA. Since that point however, Colvin, who turns 19 on Saturday, has arguably been the best pitcher in the league. In his sixteen starts since that point, the Louisiana native has a 1.45 ERA in sixteen starts while getting his fastball into the mid-90s at times and flashing an impressive breaking ball. He's loaded with projection, but in some ways, already there as well.

Anthony Rizzo, 1B, Red Sox (Double-A Portland): 2-for-5, HR (16), R, 2 RBI, K

The old scouting cliché is that power is the last tool to develop, and Rizzo is our latest evidence to the fact. After hitting just 12 home runs last year, he's up to 21 in 2010, including three in his last four games as part of a second-half outburst that has seen him hit .327/.380/.618 since the break. For a long time, Rizzo was the first baseman in the system who is simply younger than Lars Anderson. Now, he's simply better.

Jean Segura, 2B, Angels (Low-A Quad Cities): 2-for-4, 3B, R, 2 RBI, BB, K

Maybe it's just something about leading off for the Kernels, as Mike Trout's departure for the Cal League led to Segura's insertion into the role, and like Trout, he's absolutely exploded, hitting .353/.397/.579 in the leadoff role to raise his season averages to .304/.355/.448. One of the best pure hitters in the system, Segura bat-speed and strong wrists generate surprising power for his size, and he's a well above-average runner who now has 10 triple and 40 stolen bases in 49 attempts.

Others Of Note:

  • Nolan Arenado, 3B, Rockies (Low-A Asheville): 3-for-4, 2B, 2 R, RBI. Cooled off in a big way after great start; just .269/.302/.443 in a great hitter's park.
  • Nick Blackburn, RHP, Twins (Triple-A Rochester): 5 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K. Just 11 hits and two runs allowed over 16 Triple-A innings, but with just eight strikeouts, he doesn't have to stuff to miss bats at this level either.
  • Jabari Blash, OF, Mariners (Rookie-level Pulaski): 2-for-4, 2B, HR (3), 2 R, RBI, K. Eighth-round pick is loaded with tools and hitting .250/.344/.500, but 23 Ks in 56 at-bats expose the rawness.
  • Colton Cain, LHP, Pirates (Short-season State College): 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K. 19-year-old power lefty has held NYP League to .190 batting average in seven outings.
  • Carlos Carrasco, RHP, Indians (Triple-A Columbus): 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 8 K. Jekyll & Hyde prospect has been the very good version of late; 2.08 ERA in last five games with WHIP well under one.
  • Jaff Decker, OF, Padres (High-A Lake Elsinore): 1-for-2, HR (13), R, 5 RBI, 2 BB, CS. Hitting like the Decker of old; .288/.420/.556 since the break with 10 home runs a 33 walks against just 160 at-bats.
  • Danny Duffy, LHP, Royals (Double-A Northwest Arkansas): 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 8 K. Beyound the quick return from his temporary retirement, he's also shown surprising velocity.
  • Eduardo Escobar, SS, White Sox (Double-A Birmingham): 3-for-5, 2B, RBI, K. After slow start, Venezuelan shortstop is batting .348/.375/.435 in 12 August games; just needs to hit a little bit because the glove is so good.
  • Jeurys Familia, RHP, Mets (High-A St. Lucie): 7 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 9 K. One of the best pure arms in the system might be finally harnessing his stuff; three quality starts in last four after just three in first 16.
  • Dave Filak, RHP, Braves (Rookie-level Danville): 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K. Fourth-rounder from tiny school has plus velocity and curve; 22 Ks in 20 innings while limiting Appy League to .188 batting average.
  • Billy Hamilton, 2B, Reds (Rookie-level Billings): 3-for-4, 3B, 2 R, 2 RBI, SB. Up to .340/.395/.490 in 46 games; eight triples and 27 stolen bases in just 46 games tells you everything you need to know about his speed.
  • Greg Hopkins, 3B, Brewers (Rookie-level Helena): 6-for-6, 3 2B, HR (5), 4 R, 4 RBI. 24th round pick isn't a big prospect, but that's a good night that deserves notice.
  • Austin Hyatt, RHP, Phillies (Double-A Reading): 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 5 BB, 7 K. Double-A debut; more like this and we'll have to start taking him seriously.
  • Desmond Jennings, OF, Rays (Triple-A Durham): 2-for-5, 2B, R, SB. Third straight multi-hit game and fourth straight with a stolen base, a department in which he's gone 31-for-33 this year.
  • Jason Kipnis, 2B, Indians (Double-A Akron): 3-for-5, 3B, R, RBI, K. Averages are back up to .332/.407/.537 in 53 Eastern League games; as far as converting college players to second base goes, who though Kipnis would out-perform Dustin Ackley?
  • Marc Krauss, OF, Diamondbacks (High-A Visalia): 2-for-4, HR (22), 2 R, RBI, BB. Massive outfielder is a bat-only prospect, but with a .314/.377/.528 line, the bat is playing.
  • Starling Marte, OF, Pirates (High-A Bradenton): 3-for-4, R, 4 RBI, BB. Toolsy outfielder has yet to show power; still at .313/.406/.412 in 37 games.
  • Marcel Ozuna, OF, Marlins (Short-season Jamestown): 3-for-5, 2B, HR (13), R, 6 RBI, K. Leads NYP in home runs, but also has 60 strikeouts in 184 at-bats.
  • Stephen Parker, 3B, Athletics (High-A Stockton): 1-for-4, HR (17), R, 2 RBI. '09 fifth-rounder has turned into nice sleeper; .292/.393/.503 line in 115 games with power and patience.
  • Nate Roberts, OF, Twins (Rookie-level Elizabethton): 2-for-2, HR (3), 3 R, 2 RBI, 3 BB. Fifth-round pick offers size, strength and speed; batting .324/.434/.510 in 28 pro grames.
  • Aderlin Rodriguez, 3B, Mets (Rookie-level Kingsport): 2-for-5, 2B, HR (12), 2 R, RBI, K. 18-year-old Dominican has has much power potential as anyone in the league; up to .296/.338/.561 in 47 games.
  • Luis Sardinas, SS, Rangers (Rookie-level AZL Rangers): 2-for-6, 2 R, 2 SB. 17-year-old Venezuelan has 10 hits in last five games; .327/.393/.345 in 14 overall.
  • Julio Teheran, RHP, Braves (Double-A Mississippi): 7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 6 K. He's 19 and the Southern League is batting .175 against him.
  • Mike Trout, OF, Angels (High-A Rancho Cucamonga): 3-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI, CS. The only thing he's struggling with since promotion is base stealing, as he's been caught in four of ten attempts; hitting is still there at .302/.383/.453.
  • Brett Wallach, RHP, Cubs (Low-A Peoria): 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K. Easily best start as a Cub since Lilly trade; Sinker/slider combo is very effective when he throws strikes.

The Jays placed Drabek on the temporary inactive list on the tenth. Does anyone know if this was just to limit his innings(I've heard they want to cap him at 150 this year), or is it something else? He's at 142 right now.

Given Bullington's great start against the Yankees today, i was wondering if the scouts were saying anything good about him given his good year at AAA this year. Late bloomer perhaps?

How much does the knee injury to Wilin Rosario effect his timetable in reaching the majors on a permanent basis? Is there any reason to believe that this type of injury will limit him to any degree behind the plate?
