What percentage of World Series winners were above average in OBP?
Boston.com provides the answer in the form of an interactive infographic. Did you know 87% of WS winners had an above average defensive efficiency? Is the result a cause or an effect?

You sort of have to see Sammy Gervacio's new stare-down to believe it.
A good first outing means we can expect more in the future. Here's a brief video of the insanity

What should we make of the Randy Levine-Mark Attanasio spat?
Does your answer change in light of the revelation that MLBPA will pursue an investigation into claims of collusion? How about in light of the Attanasios' recent $1 million donation to charity?

Sammy Gervacio: priceless. Best of luck to the young man. Another great reminder of why I love baseball.

On a partially related note, I find it amazing that the announcers (and the Houston reporter, at the linked article) failed to reference Mike Fetters as a point of comparison for Gervacio's pre-pitch routine. We got only Pascual Perez and Carlos Marmol as comps. Alas, old habits of player comparison die hard.

While watching the game, I heard a few "Lima-time!" jokes about Gervacio's "now you see it, now you don't" ball routine in his pre-wind-up.

I think both Attanasio and Levine have good points. However, Levine challenges small-market teams to spend their handouts from large-market teams on the team, and the Brewers have done that, so that response doesn't shoot Attanasio down. On the other hand, the list of recent pennant winners does show a lot of small-market and low-payroll teams. If the large-market teams are frustrated with how some small-market teams are using the redistribution, then they should put some teeth in the rules.
