No Pepper

Against the Fence

Note: This is my regular links feature. Feel free to discuss the links in the comments.

What does signal detection theory teach us about batting eye?
In a series of articles at Sabometrics, Craig Glaser has attempted to provide an answer.

One can get carried away linking to Joe Posnanski, but his Rule 5 draft history post is an instant classic.
Among the things I learned was that Hack Wilson was a Rule 5 draftee in 1925. True to form, it's 2500 words long.

I love my SABR newsletters. A particular favorite is the Business of Baseball Committee's "Outside the Lines."
The most recent issue discusses the the American Needle Supreme Court case and provides the annual arbitration wrap up.

Speaking of SABR, Phil Birnbaum provides a lengthy philosophical discussion of Pythagorean expectation.
He asks whether a team should desire to exceed its Pythagorean W-L record. Is such a goal ever at odds with accumulating the largest margin of victory?

I'm a sucker for good design, and OMG Reds designed a really sharp poster celebrating opening day.
Be still my vector heart.
