The BP 2010 Tour Continues�

Next week, the BP 2010 book tour rolls on to Washington, DC. Please join Kevin, Jay, Clay, Matt, and myself at 7 PM on Tuesday at the great Politics and Prose bookstore, 5015 Connecticut Avenue NW. We'll be answering questions, signing books, roasting s'mores, and singing songs from the American songbook. Well, some of those, not all of them.

For those with Sirius-XM access, we'll also be making an in-studio appearance on the Power Alley show on the Home Plate channel that same day at 12 noon. Call in, ask questions, the 13th caller gets to take me home with them. Well, some of those, not all of them.

We had a great time seeing you in New Jersey and New York, and we look forward to meeting more of you next week.

We're doing a DePaul event on March 18, and also a booksigning at the University of Chicago on March 30, so there's more than one opportunity to catch the Midwest contingent gabbing about the game.

Maybe you guys should focus less on the book tour and get back to us on what the heck is going on with PECOTA and whether pitcher cards will even have a beta release before the all-star break. This is what we are paying you guys for, and the customer service has been seriously sub-par here.

I think BP authors are capable of multitasking. A few of them are working hard on fixing PECOTA, but as you should be able to see many of them are analyzing baseball in its many aspects.

Are they capable of multitasking? Its been a week since they admitted the problem with the hitting side of the PECOTA cards and there has been no follow-up. We still haven't even seen a beta version of the pitchers and the season is only three weeks away. By the time numbers are out that have been fully scrubbed and finalized, drafts will be long over and the season well into full swing.

While we understand your frustration, none of the authors pictured above are the people you want testing PECOTA - we're the liberal arts wing. And with the exception of the upcoming DC event this coming week, where Kevin, Steve and I will be joined by Clay Davenport, none of the people testing PECOTA are on the author tour. The testing and the book tour thus have NOTHING to do with each other regarding multitasking.

The last PECOTA status update was on 2/28 (http://www.baseballprospectus.com/unfiltered/?p=1528), where we noted that we have confidence in the 2010 PECOTAs, but not the long-term forecasts. The pitcher cards are not available online yet, but their 2010 forecasts are available in the downloadable spreadsheet, as of course are those for the hitters.

As I understand it, we should have more to announce regarding PECOTA very soon. We apologize for the inconvenience, and thank you for our patience.
